Post Damn I feel old.

The days when CB ran quake.gen.nz.
Days of iD keeping track of every players stats with quakeworld.
Days when it was huge news that CB had left ihug due to their crap network (i think?
Days with Ash and Bloodrain.
Days when Abaddons quake news was geocities.
Days when Jodi's page was the main news page (haha)
Anyone remember the LAN at westlake boys?
Giblets?
Whatever happened to the bubble bobble clan?
Days when noone knew what CTF was.
Days when Romero worked for id.
Days when you owned a P200MMX...you were the man.
"The beast" or "The heater".
whats a voodoo? 3dfx?
40fps? nah, you'll never get that.

Haha, remember when I held that 1v1 tourney, relying on the server to give me the stats so I could break down a placing table, only to find out that the server doesnt give out fragstats!

You are old Juju
and that LAN at Westlake boys was great fun, then we must of spent the next 3 weekends at Giblets house... Untill he stole his parents credit card knocked up a nice large bill for an equally large comp... and was barred from all contact of all sorts to the quaking world, which was obviously what poluted his mind FORCING him to buy this flash computer?? was it a P133 of 150??? j/k

man those were those were the days

Ab on his 486
and Ash with his flashing red light on his head at some Lan or was that Ab?? hmmm they weren't that identical

Do you still play Ju ? or am i just blind cos I dont see many of you oldies around... or maybe you all still stick to your QW like the old days...

HSH ?!?! Yeah I remember you!

I remember the first HamLAN which was probably NZ's first real Nationwide LAN. We turned up with our kick-ass P133/CyrixP150's, co-ax IPX, Dos Quake machines going "How do we setup TCP/IP under Win95??". Had my first ever 1-1 Death match against Travln Nailzman. That LAN was actually the beginning of 1-1 DM in this country I reckon.

I also remember when gen only had about 5 CTF maps and Ab use to be on there almost every day. Anyone remember CB's infamous 5 sec ammo respawn that was running on gen at one stage?? - use to be able to sit on a rocket ammo firing non-stop at the doorway the entire lev (e2m2 blue base was a lockout - cept never stopped Sooperman-FJ squeezing off a quad rocket at me tho . Heh I even remember CB had a 30sec Pent respawn for a while as well until I bitched to him about it
You use to be able to grapple your teammates too!! My god that was over 3 years ago - Now thats what I call Old-Skool!!!

Question

Nearly related but not quite,

- I remember when you could flood someone off irc by pinging them 6 times, and flooding them with text

- When you didn't supply a password to W/X bots on the undernet, and if you knew someone was gaining access, and you were quicker than them, you could login as their host, add a password, and 'hax' access

- When you could hack an hour's free internet by using ihug's 'im becoming a new user, online registration' dialup guest account

- When you could run a script pretending to be idsoftware to control any quake server you wanted remotly

- Netscape 1, images disabled.. actually, images were scarce, only found on the occasional 'high tech' professional website, accessibly only by a link

- Homepages ? there were 3 of those.

- Lets manually fully config our internet connections before any chance of connection, every little option had to be perfect

- 20 IRC channels :>

- Winnuke

- Trying to get doom going using extended memory on a 386 in win 3.1 :/

- Achieving 15 fps !

- Running your Voodoo1 4meg for a weekend doing time demos to theoretically make it faster

- Hacking people with BO was made you l33t.

- When linux WAS actually l33t, before 10,000 wannabee un-l33t people tried to redeem their popularity.

- Ihug being cool.

- 14.4 was FAAAAAAAAST !

- Playing your mates at doom/duke3d through dialup :]

Hoon: was that the one which was in the go kart place...down the road from the told address, which took us like 2 hours to find

"Great turnout for the lan party. Around 20~25 people."

Thumbs up

What about the LAN out at Stillwater.. everytime someone turned up the whole network froze while the Co-Ax was unplugged and extended! Shit that was before ANYONE I knew had a voodoo.

Auckmageddon 1 DM finals played at Netcentral in town.

Downloading some game called Heimdall (sp?) for the Amiga in the middle of the night across a 2400baud modem($500 worth of modem in those days) from some l33t bbs and being shocked that a game could be big enough to span 8 floppy disks!!!

Wondering if it was worth the extra few hundred dollars to buy a DX4-100 instead of a DX2-66 so Doom would run smoother....

Ah.. long ago now.
