Yikes. Looks like while it's news to us, it's well known in the theatre social circles.
Go full circle and recast Terrence Howard as Kang.

Astérix and Obélix : The Middle Kingdom
They've done such a great job of capturing the comics. It feels like literally the comics in live action. Which is to say absurd and over the top and fantastic. It's such a nostalgia kick. I'm not sure how it comes across to anyone who didn't grow up reading them over and over. In those times with a bare minimum of paper and broadcast content.

I loved the set design. It felt very much like high quality stage production. They weren't opting for realism.
But it's the writing and the acting that really captures the essence of the comics. The actor who plays Obelix is especially perfect.

Mostly agree with that. I went and watched it with the wife when we had some free babysitting. I knew nothing of it except it had Ben Afflick.,
I was really disappointed with ending. Obviously there were going to be twist etc but I found the whole family reunion piece just shit. . Interestingly, we felt that it was a very old school type movie, and then found out that apparently it was written in the early 2000's and that is honestly what it felt like. the whole "these people can control anyone just by talking to them" was just stupid shit. Maybe a different ending could have been cooler but, meh I have also not yet worked out what happened in those missing years. What was Ben doing during that? Hiding, working for the agency? |

I watched Bullet Train. Unlike the title it was pretty slow moving, jumping off onto all sorts of tangents.
Which was fine, comedy right. But the lack of tension/momentum kinda killed it for me. |

I think the ambiguity was allayed when he asked the Manager if he would take him home, although his dog turning its head in the last scene might point to something else. Post credit scene definitely setup the spinoff. Suspension of disbelief severely tested with the blind guy. |

Ok, yep, Extraction2 delivered when it comes to crazy camera tracking through car/train chases. A bit of Rocky IV thrown in (Makes me wonder if someone misunderstood where he was from... Australia, not Austria!). I think there was some jarring visual continuity in the recovery montage - in adjacent scenes, he was bigger, then not. Maybe he just had more clothes on.
Not quite sure how a chopper goes from something like the Ganges to Dubai - maybe they missed out a bit where they work out who he is and then the Company takes over. Yeah, I think possibly it does edge out Wick4, but only just. |

Well that didn't work, logistics fell apart, no Oppenheimer on the big screen today. I did however finally watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3 on the small screen at home, and I was pleasantly surprised after the shiftiest that Marvel has become. Moved, even. A worthy sendoff for James Gunn and for the most unlikely bunch of misfits to ever star in a blockbuster movie.
I thought Groot's last line was unnecessary though. |

Post weekend update:
Ant-Man Quantumania, formula green screen dreck unrescuable even by Paul Rudd. A nothing pile of meh. Dungeons & Dragons, pleasantly surprised, really enjoyed it. It was basically a fantasy Guardians of the Galaxy heist movie with a portal gun. I had low expectations and had a great time. Lots of nice fan service nerd references. |
