NZGames Summer Soundtrack - Double Deuce
That's right. It's that time of year again. I recently reharmonized a christmas'y song to be played on National Radio's Homegrown christmas special (the host of which confessed to us that it was very difficult to find NZ musicians playing christmas themed songs). So I set about forcing my band into being NZ musicians playing a christmas song. Last Dance Charlie - The Last Noel You know the deal ladies and gentlemen. The theme is summer and all that comes with her. Christmas. Beer. Beaches. Raw Sex. I invite you to pen, strum, collaborate, program, plonk, sing along to a song that reminds you of this special... special time of year. Dont be shy. Last year was a beautiful success thanks to everyone's prompt and tasteful contributions. I look forward to another great collection of NZgames songs. |

SlothZan, in collaboration with Goodshirt are proud to once again bring you the songs of summer. After months in the studios recording their first combined effort, Iraq Asshat has finally hit the charts. Their melancholy mix of pondrous guitar riffs, eloquent lyrics, and soulful vocals brings to life an epic tale of friendships being crushed under the hostile pretense of nzgames. Can the power of RL friendship triumph over all odds? Find out - SlothZan - Iraq Asshat.mp3 Download is 2.79MB |

Hey. It's the act of doing that helps us to get better. Hell, I remember the first time i heard my voice recorded. I was mid-puberty, quiveringly singing Radiohead's Fake Plastic Trees ... on camera and recorded in sight and sound for a mock "good morning show" which was the project that we were doing for a short film and television course.
My teeth were grinding! So i set about making my voice more tolerable, through recording myself and lots of practise... Anyway, you've impressed me once again Slothzan. The Summer Soundtrack just wouldnt have that NZgames flava without you guys. |

The whole purpose of Iraq asshat was to be Bizzarely and stupidly funny, not to be Idol-like.
To get my Terry Fawkish voice, the original to Fiji baby was slowed down, and I tried to match the pace and tone of the song. It was then sped up. I only took one attempt, and only heard what it sounded like once Tarzan had put the thing together. I had misunderestimated how much Nzgames cared. *shruggle* If it means that much to you, I could redo it. |

Found out last night that a documentary I produced will be airing on National Radios summer report in January. The doco is titled The NZ Element and is about how Hip Hop has become a part of new zealand culture. Its 12 minutes long and features interviews with Dean D Word Hapeta (Upper Hutt Posse) Savage, DJ Sirvere and Dr Vernan Andrews of Canterbury Uni.
I'll let you guys know when I know the exact time/date it will be aired |

haven't heard much from Bogan recently - do you think he's going to pop in with a hiphop anthem this time?

Here's a jazz standard we recorded yesterday. The title is rather topical.
Last Dance Charlie - Israel I'll set about penning another tune in January. Hope you're all busy writing, rapping, recording, strumming your tunes. |

well, i'm going to bump this with a recent re-jig of a small tune i wrote a few months ago... i shall try and come up with something fresh specifically for this thread in a short while. but for the time being, i give you -
dustbowl (the first week of sweat mix) edit: some of you might spot something about this tune that it has in common with my last nzg:ss piece. possibly. probably not actually.

I like it *seldom, reminds me of Endtroducing... love that mood
Beautiful work as always cEvin. Hows the Room Noir album going? What did you use to get that Aphex Twin rhythm ? sounds like pouring water, flicking cardboard, and someone using a ratchet / dragging a chain through chair legs or something(?) ... Whatever you used, it works well. ___________ Ta for your compliments guys. I see you are in Auckland SpaceCowboy, you and other jaffas might be interested in a gig my trio has coming up playing support for Nathan Haines(!!!!!) at the Auckland Zoo. Now i got told it was on the 13th of Feb but ive seen it advertised as either the 12th or the 13th from different sources... to be confirmed i suppose. We start at 6pm followed by Kären Hunter with Brendon Turner on double bass who is followed by Nathan Haines and his monster band (who are our teachers as it happens...) It's gonna be a great night of Jazz among the animals ... i dont know what price it will be... but whatever you pay, we'll make sure your money is well spent. Bring a picnic, bring your loved ones and be serenaded. I look forward to your non-jazz song Spacecowboy |
