I always feel both smarter and dumber listening to Carmack. He communicates just at a level I understand, so I learn, but it's so clear his knowledge far eclipses anything I'm capable of.

Fell asleep listening to this in bed last night, I'll have to go back and find where I drifted off. But so much nostalgia for the old Doom and Quake days. I had to smile when JC was talking about the brutality of those early FPS experiences - thinking you were a badass because you were the best player of your close group, then realising that you're actually fodder for people playing at the next level. I'll never forget getting brought down to earth in Doom by POD. I thought I was so good until kickoff and I just got buttfucked.
