Yeah financially it might not have hurt him at this moment though I would think now he's red flagged if in the future he wants to invest and be a director in an organization that wants to be seen as inclusive and respectful of Maori culture. Also he no longer has any influence in the running of the Hurricanes organization and I think that was the main gripe here.

This happened at Eagle Brewing recently and I'm hoping there's a shift where this sort of crap that's been happening forever in NZ is no longer accepted and we can initiate consequences for speech.

Comedy is kind of a weird context as it's traditionally a hall pass for joking about controversial subjects but at the same time it is perpetuating outdated and harmful ideas.

As I have commented in the movie thread, that show of Chappelle’s is a work of art. He is so good it’s ridiculous. I don’t mean that it’s necessarily funny, although one can’t help but laugh when that’s what Chappelle intends. I think Chappelle would be best described now as a writer-commentator rather than a comedian.

One thing that finally hit meis that Chappelle has almost written his - what, five?- Netflix specials as one single unified piece of work that you need to watch in its entirety in order. Some of his punchlines are set up not in previous minutes of the show but in previous shows entirely. He’s a genius.
