Too many too list really! Been playing games since I had a C64 haha.
Something like as follows... Pretty much games I spent ALOT of time on Quake 1 / 2 for online games, any type, TF, CTF, RA etc. It must of been good to get me out of bed early for games so the pings were low hahaah Starcraft / BW Star Control 2 (Wow I spent a huge amount of time on this game) Doom 1 / 2 Civilization 1 and 4 Duke Nukem 3d Halflife 1 Little Big Adventure games Ultima 7 black gate and expansions Ultima 8 (no where near as good as the above) Mass Effect games - Particularly 2 Freespace 2 Streetfighter 2 or Xmen vs SF (helps I have the gaming cabinets, man these have been thrashed!!) Total Annihilation Diablo 2 That's about as small as I could get it I think and Im missing heaps that Id like to say! |

I'm surprised the Total War series isn't a more regular feature... Rome Total War in particular
Guilty of starting it up again last week sometime and getting re-hooked. |

I also made the mistake of forgetting to list the Mechwarrior series - probably would have knocked something off my list (quite possibly Soul Calibre).. Pixie

Big fan of single player FPS games of old:
System Shock 2 Duke Nukem 3D Half-Life 1 and 2 Shogo M.A.D. Giants: Citizen Kabuto Quake 2 Thief 1 and 2 Doom 1 and 2 and a fuckload of old-skool platforms (Vikings, Rick Dangerous, Jazz Jackrabbit, Flashback, Prince of Persia), adventure (Indiana Jones last crusade, Leisure Suit Larry). My first game ever was Pharaohs Tomb, which I recall was launched as ptomb.exe via DOS... Oh and Gorillas which is like Scorched Earth except with two gorillas throwing bananas at each other (you enter angle and speed) Modern games: Assassins Creed 1 and 2 KillmoterhfuckingZone 2!!! Fallout 3 and New Vegas (lol, still playing New Vegas level 22 yeah!) NFS, the good one with nice physics Metal Gear Solid 4 (just wow) Batman Archam Asylum Yeah.

In no particular order (using PC games)
Jumpman (C64 is still a PC, right?) Elite Wolfenstein 3D Doom Warcraft C&C Space Quest 3 (or Police Quest maybe..) Diablo II TF2 Q2:RA (Captain Comic / Commander Keen honorable mentions) Back in the day my old man worked for a company called "The Great Escape" who (afaik) distributed the first WYSE terminals in NZ. He'd often work weekends and drag me and my brother (we were aged 6-12 during this time period) into their Parnell warehouse, to get us out from under mums feet when the weather was shitty. All of the techs there were in their mid 20s and most probably pretty hardcore gamers. We rarely met them, with one exception who is still a family friend 25-30 years later. To keep us occupied dad would fire up a couple of PCs and after we had figured out DOS commands we'd steadily make our way through games folders with 20+ games in them, trying each one out with no idea what it was or how to play it. Eventually working out that EGA / VGA was better than CGA, making sure the game was using Adlib instead of PC Speaker, and figuring out the keys by trial and error. These were all pirated games, so no manuals available. I do remember once finding a walk-through for Police Quest that one tech had printed out from some BBS, we had been stuck half way through the game at one point for weeks and at that age didnt care about spoilers because we were so ecstatic to get to the end of the game! At one point TGE had upgraded to a flash North Shore office/warehouse on Ellice Road and I have an extremely vivid memory of playing Doom for the first time here at about 7:30pm in the middle of winter. When encountering the first pink demon I got the first video game jump scare of my life. Good times. /reminisce Last edited by pxpx : 9th November 2017 at 09:05. |
