Performance is awesome, my old 3500+ AMD couldn't run 1080p video (in quicktime) at full speed, this machine does it easy.
Games in windows are fast, plays all the lastest. installing parallel workstation now, with intel VT!. Mac OS X performance is very fast on native apps (boot up time is twice as fast as old powerbook). Emu Apps like office are about the same speed as 1.33ghz powerbook G4, which is good. Very good machine, looking forward to macbooks too. B&W 602 are awesome speakers :P best value b&W speaker easy |

Took my ibook + 1814 for a walk last night.
Did some recording of friends playing at The Skycity Grand Hotel Lobby. Here's them playing Blue In Green. Recorded 2 sets' worth. Just left it recording for the whole time. Havent noticed any glitching / artifacts from it recording for so long, on batteries, with people clicking around, minimizing Ableton and going "ooooOOooh! ibook! cute!" (me included =) Will have a good listen tomorrow to hear for any unwanted digital type sounds. |

Just received a 12" iBook. Wow.
I think their new slogan should be "Apple: It just fucking works."

Wonder if they'll go 13.3" core solo, 15" core duo. Hope not.
Or is that pattie duo...

$1099 US? awesome. My wife will be pleased. She's been planning on buying one on her trip there in a month for months now!

And now with easier user-replaceable hard disks.
$1099US is incredibly cheap for what you get, especially since you can add RAM ($150 for 1 gig) and a bigger HDD ($80 gig for $160) At todays rates: 1.8GHz white: $1755 2GHz white: $2075 2GHz black: $2400 15" MacBook Pro: $3200 Father going to the States tomorrow: priceless.

Right. Time to go shopping.
|
17th May 2006, 14:50 | #62 |
|
Couple of things to keep in mind:
- the 512MB RAM is 2x256 - video RAM is shared with system ram and even though it says 64MB, down the bottom in the fine print is this: "Minimum graphics memory usage is 80MB, resulting in 432MB of system memory available." Tech specs So that 1GB may not go as far as you think. I'll probably get 2 then

I'll hopefully get one in SF next month. Black rocks - first new looking mac laptop in aaaages - but white 1.83 has got to be the sweetspot for pricing.

It's not special magic memory and is insanely overpriced. As an aside, did anyone else notice that the price of the Black MacBook is fucked? You can upgrade the higher end white version beyond the specs of the Black one and still come out with a few dollars more spare. |

No but if you find a buyer let me know how much it went for
About the RAM: Definitely don't buy from Apple. For this 12" iBook I got off TradeMe for a friend, I put in a normal 512MB SO-DIMM for $100 and had no issues. Although I'm disturbed by your talk of something from Apple being neither special nor magical

Done. Order submitted. I went for the 2GHz in white, a gig of RAM, 80gig disk, and the DVI adapter for an external monitor.
First Apple I've purchased in a LOOOOONG time |

Mind you, I found the Black iPods to suffer hugely from finger marks. By the look of Kanz's last post, the MacBook Black looks as though it has a bit of a matte finish, so it's probably not as bad. |

If black and white were the same price i'd get black for sure. You have to be way too much of a hipster to pay $400 more for a laptop that matches your eyeshadow.
