my tf career begain with a brief period playing by myself on games3 (4 5?) clear.net.nz. Then Homer hooked me up with TFT.
My class is engineer, a very tatical role imo and i loved the support class aspect of it.

I did partially join COM after TFT went away
but becuase of commitments outside of TF, I never played and decided to leave the game .

Always wondered what Homer and others got up too.

Oh yeah, I started playing TF around 96/97. And I used to have lots of fun playing as spy.

Especially on 2fort, where I was able to get into the enemy repawn area, then spam the ammo room with gas grenades, except for one little corner were I'd feign death and watch as all the enemy team members would respawn then run out into the ammo room and die from my gas. I would just pick up more gas grenades and keep doing it.

If the enemy team were especially stupid I would sometimes beable to stay in there for a whole round.

It was especially hilarious as the death messages would show lines and lines of people dying. "blahblah chokes on Poo-Bum's noxious gas." or whatever the death message was.

So hilarious. I remember the tears of laughter I used to shed.

Although it used to piss a lot of people off. But I think it was a legitimate tactic :P

Eventually though people caught on so I had to stop.

I also have fond memories of defending the ramps in 2fort and CCS throwing many a spaz. "Stop camping Poo-Bum!" , "Defending the flag??? But you're nowhere near the flag!!".

Hehe, so funny.

Oh, and my favourite map was that Sword one, made by the nz'er, I can't remember was his name was though.

im ryback (stephens) little brother, i first played tf in 98.
i remember just wondering wtf my brother was playing i used to watch him play sniper heaps , i don t know i just thought it was entertaining. i started playing when he wasn t home which was fukin never, as soon as he d go out to a party id cancel his porn d/wloads and jump into g3 ... LOL.. i played as lollie, which was pretty pathetic as i used to go demoman and spamm the fuck out of anyone unfortunite to come my way, i remember greenknight because he used to cuss the shit out of me for spamming, i didn t know wat it meant.. lol . i used to go to sacred heart in auckland, my bro ryback was mates with the infamous cowboy,,, apparently he was good agges ago, i dont know i heard my brother saying something like he was in stormlords brothers clan or something the used to be good as ... anyways i didn t know wat a lcna was or anything so i wasn t intrested. other tfers that went to my school were... diablo666, jase, jase was one of my mates same age as me, while diab, cowboy,ryback were all in the same form, anyways i played for n1a once, i was watching steven play tf early as on a sunday morning , i started watching him as i did at the time. he needed to take a crap bad so he let me jump on as pyro spiral he just said to shoot anyone coming, that was probly my best clasn i played for huhuhuh. my favourite caln and the best guys i met on tf was vsd, cool as guys . plus i had moved on from the dmer' tfer type of gameplay huhuhuhu. wat ever happened to phoniex and all the other n1a guys a few of them used to go out of their way to piss on me in g3, they knew i was on my brothers computer., which for some reason he used to go physc when he found out. must be all that porno that got cancelled lol. the person i admired the most was cowboy and mightmouse, i thought highly of cowboy because he always killed me almost instinctly as engineer, how could a lowly weak class beat the invincible demomans grens??? i dont know, he taught me wat owning was. killed me with a spanner >;( i had full health anyways tf sounds a dead, play jedi knight 2 get with the times , tf was the best game i ever played multiplayer, still is, somethings can t be explained.
PS remember all those late night games against me and quik during the last holidays raffe and mentor? that was the funnest times. damn i miss TF. huhu

I remember playing as LOQ for a bit .... getting bullied and killed alot.(mostly shooting walls floors etc..is it possible to shoot yourself?Im sure I did ),Then on Demoza (I think) a guy called Everclear started talking to me.Ask's How long I'd been playing for..1-2 weeks I say,he invites me into this clan called SFS...well did'nt I feel like a chump after a few pracs...just such awsome players...I think it was madmax that gave me my Engineer fetish
Stayed with SFS until they broke up(My memory is a little hazy so things might not be all in order )After that a few people asked me to join another clan...which was the most fun clan Iv'e ever been in.Met some of the very coolest people in it aswell...3 damn good people)
There was a few pure fun clans there a continuation of HPC Happy Pixie Clan (happy still in jail..or is that back in ? ) as sexy...ran around spamming WeeeeeeeEEE !!! alot.

Sniper, too! (!@# I had a sniper war in games3 and got into tft.. luckily Purge set me straight and got me playing soldier :P any more games like the FFP rock2 sniper war me vs sneetro for 30 minutes, oblivious to the rest of the game would have been rediculous!)

I don't like thinking back to those early days though, All I can seem to remember is doing alot of dumb things and pissing alot of people off.

Since being linked this thread is bound to pop-up again I may as well ignore my reluctance to bring it back to the top. Just got a quick few things:

Since we have a few names popping up recently I'd just like to reiterate my apology to the numerous people I troubled.. So yeah, sorry you guys. (and gals) I can remember doing far, far too many stupid things.

Someone mentioned my rather short-lived clan- that clan very quickly put me in my place and learnt me much respect for clan-leaders it also had a really shitty name which I remember but I'm not going to tell you anyway because I'm so embarassed someone else will remember and bust me anyway though.

For my first year (98) I was pretty much either on games3, sleeping or at school - but I was always using false names out of fear of playing crap I had a few I was really fond of and used repetitively, but I can only remember melancholy, ]AR[ PhalanX (my pet one-man-clan), Illusions.

Oh, and I liked my first 'fun clan' TT tag, usually only used it when we did a server raid though. We all played HWGuy, spoke in caps, etc it was really funny making up silly newbie stuff but looking back on it it seems a bit selfish to do it at the expense of everyone else, nobody was really that happy with us until after a while they just grew used to us and laughed at us too ;D

Another thing I'm embarassed to think about (but being sosososo long ago I can just laugh and say I WAS SO YOUNG!!@!!!) is in my very early days, not long after I joined TFT and was taught how to make 'binds' I bound a 'LAAAAAAAAAAAG!!!' key which I frequently used... URGH

As for the best player, I would have to agree with Tom and say it was eaaasily Purge. I was very lucky to be able to duel him on a regular basis. (he learnt me a looooot of things.)

I had a lot of fun at the time (being oblivious and all), although now it mostly pains me to think back as I did way too many dumb things. I can only wonder why I ever had any friends.. (A few examples above, but they are only individual grains of sand on a beach of childhood stupidity ) - I can only look forward to finding out what I'm doing these days that later on will make me groan and wish that it wasn't me.. ;D
