This doesn't look good:

EU considers shelving ban on Russian oil as Hungary blocks sanctions

Quote:
One idea circulating in Brussels would see other elements of the EU's sixth package of Russia sanctions move ahead, with the support of all 27 member countries. But the complete ban on all imports of Russian crude and refined fuels could be put aside for now, while work continues on a compromise deal that Hungary can accept, EU diplomats told POLITICO.

Such a delay would be a major setback for the EU's efforts to counter Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. In particular, it would be a blow to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who proposed the total prohibition of all imports of Russian oil in a draft sixth sanctions package on May 4.

Well, yes exactly.
The adage is a perfect example of misunderstanding design goals and mislabelling inadequate design as good just because it's cheaper and simpler.

An interesting (?) conversation with a Ukrainian:
Quote:
Ukrainian_: foreigners don't know what it is Дія
Me: I don't what is Дія either
Ukrainian_: yes yes
Ukrainian_: this application in Ukraine where all my documents are stored
Ukrainian_: and vaccination certificate
Ukrainian_: I can also see all my fines and criminal cases open to me
Ukrainian_: send money to the army, get support from the country in the form of money
Me: oh digital ID is here
Me: jesus
Me: welcome to the new world order :P
Me: my friend sent money to azov
Me: I told him he was a nazi :P
Ukrainian_: watch eurovision and cartoons
Ukrainian_: play game and kill tanks of russian soldiers
Ukrainian_: hahahahaha
Me: I don't know if you're joking or not
Ukrainian_: noooo
Ukrainian_: it's not joking
Digital ID, mixed with nationalist propaganda. A bit of light entertainment or violence if you're bored.

----

Apparently some people are returning to Ukraine, albeit slowly. I think we may be well past halfway, as opposed to expecting a drawn out 5 year battle. At least, that's my optimistic view. Mariupol has been taken, so maybe Russia has done enough and achieved whatever they intended? More Ukrainians I know are online regularly, instead of sporadically or disappearing suddenly to go into a shelter.

Henry Kissinger should shut the fuck up. I can't believe he's still alive, it's like being haunted by a particularly nasty ghost.

Kissinger says Ukraine should cede territory to Russia to end war

Russia's fucked now and it's only going to get worse for the next 30 years. The damage that it has suffered in the past 3 months can't be repaired quickly. It's going to be a basket case for the middle of the 21st century and it has nothing to lose. That really scares me.

Putin probably thinks he can still win. I'm wondering at which point he loses that confidence and decides "If I can't have Ukraine then no one can."

The problem with that statement, is that Putin will consider "no Ukraine", a victory. Have to wonder if and how heavily other countries will involve themselves, and at what level of destruction that threshold lies. What level of atrocity are we willing to tolerate... as disgusting as that sounds.

Oh shit, I watched that youtube clip without realising who posted it.
Now I feel gross and violated. I actually spent half of it thinking it was some kind of comedy gag, like extreme sarcasm - but as it progressed it became increasingly clear it wasn't. Watching it began to hurt.
By the end I actually feel dumber.

Don't worry about who posts information, just worry about the information.

It's important not to get caught up in an information bubble, and refuse to accept that the rest of the world exists, and that different people have different opinions to one you wish to be true. Wishing something to be true doesn't make it true. Me posting a link doesn't affect the quality of the information presented, and it's up to you how you react.

Gravitas LIVE - Putin's big win against the US | Iran, Russia strike $40 billion energy deal

Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey and Russia are allies. China is pretty much a Russian ally too. Russia is in a position to cripple Europe via energy and is causing economic problems for the US. There seems to be an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" dynamic happening.

This is obviously bigger than just Ukraine, and the West is being weakened by Putin whether we like hearing that or not.

The West is worrying about whether men can be women, and worrying about sniffles, while Russia is fucking our economies.

Here's a newer 2-day-old German power futures chart where prices are touching 1700 Euros per MWh. This is ruinous, disaster-grade pricing.

I can tell you this even after 3 years, only everyone understands that the corrupt officials, as they sat in their offices on the priest exactly, and sit
And every day thousands of ordinary people with families die, old people, mothers and children die
I saw corpses with my own eyes, the corpse of a bus driver who had half his head blown off, and he was lying in blood on the driver's seat when a fragment from
a shell hit him
I saw how, in the center of my city, probably 10 cars were burning in a row, people in which they did not have time to run out, I think they had little regard f
for corruption

The counter-offensive is progressing - the Russians are being compressed into a relatively small area next to the Dnieper with no way back across except by ferries. It seems a new counter-offensive has also started in the Donbas. Interesting times.

Right now in the Pentagon there is probably a lot of high-fiving and furious masterbation because the US equipment, intelligence and war gaming has absolutely smashed the Russians beyond what they were probably expecting. As for the Russians, good riddance, hope the worst of your scumbags were captured or exterminated before they could escape.

The worrying aspect of this success is that Putin's ego won't accept this failure and knows that failure of the "Special Operation" will mean the end of him politically and maybe literally if there is a violent coup. He won't back down so what will he do to make sure this is a victory for Russia?
