gee at a guess I think it's just plain shock value. They're trying to construct a noise which is as repulsive and vile as their lyrics. Musically and ethically they would be outclassed by any classical ensemble but for shear authenticity their discordant racket captures a genuinely unsettling human expression. Whereas the 'cute death metal' stuff seems highly manufactured; bit of a growl, some tuff stickers, bit of leather & power chords = 'look at me mum, I'm pretty bad eh'. Whereas you'd probably want to keep the Nuclear Death chaps away from your family. Don't get me wrong, they ought to be shot for bringing such recordings into reality but if demons & stuff were real they'd probably be listening to Nuclear Death.

Similar to spastic amputees spitting paint onto a canvas, which then sells for thousands of dollars. That too, is an artistic expression.

However, I don't understand that one and personally think it's worthless.

But, having worked in this particular industry for many many years, I can defend that particular style as it can be accurately classified as music. In my opinion, spat paint, not so much.

And for the record, I'd take that style of music over Top 20, in a fraction of a heartbeat. And if you LIKE Top 20, it's time to take a long hard look at yourself.

(Edit: Oh, and if you somehow associate metal with cookie-monster vocals as evil or demonic or whatever.. er.. I think you've missed the point of music.)
