Disney loves the thought of leaning on What If because they get to leverage all the Phase-1-2-3 connections we have with the characters, but without having to pay those pesky actors. An animated Tony Stark that looks vaguely like but obviously isn't Robert Downey Jr, voiced by a voice actor working by the hour? Cheap.

That's the same as someone having to watch Spiderman to understand whats going on in Dr Strange. Or watching the original spidermen movies to understand SM:NWH Or watching all the movies in order to make sense. All they have done is added a TV element to it. |

To be fair, as it's a Raimi film, with Zombies, I'm secretly hanging out for a cameo by Mr Campbell...

"You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago," Stewart said of the trailer. "So, I can't be held responsible for that." So what's the first thing that all the actors are told to do about marvel movies - lie and say you are you not part of it. But MCU released a trailer, with (apparently) a quote from him. And MCU know exactly what they are doing with their trailers. Even some of the "leaked trailers/footage" I would go to say that's planned. So why then lie about being in it? Is because they don't want more questions being asked of his role? *Although Stewart may not technically be lying, but deflecting. Maybe it is actually James McAvoy, who they have and he is mimicing the voice. |

With all the "Im not in the movie" that has gone on before, I'm sure Stewart is the type of person that would be happy to go along with the "Im in the movie" when hes not. |

I agree with the kids acting. He did feel like a mini version of Reynolds. I felt like the third act was the weakest part of the movie. |

Worth watching? Or is it just typecast Ryan Reynolds at this point.

I say yeah.
I thought Reynolds was pretty subdued in this one. Yeah he was still playing Ryan Reynolds, but he actually acted at points. The scenes were he was struggling with his relationships with his parents as an adult had some emotion to them. The movie was a bunch of timetravel movie tropes strung together with some bad CG, but I watched it on a Saturday night with a string of beers in hand and felt like I got my money's worth. A weirdly highpowered cast for a "new on Netflix" movie though. The most implausible bit was that the kid was allowed to wear a $15,000 Omega Speedmaster to school every day. |

Saw two movies this weekend, Turning Red, and Spider-man No Way Home.
First of all, Disney are knocking it out of the park with Encanto and now Turning Red. It was great fun, really rich culturally, and the only content that went over my 7yo boy's head was regarding why it was funny that a thirteen year old girl was hiding in the bathroom stressed out, yelling to her mum about turning into a red monster. My 11yo got it. No Way Home was pretty damn epic. Again I watched it with my boys and while they're well clued up on the MCU, they had no idea what relevance the wider legacy villain and hero cast had, and I wasn't going to put them through five or six mediocre superhero movies as compulsory prior viewing. The nostalgia factor was obviously lost on them, but overall hugely enjoyable for everyone. Way more actual acting than I was expecting.

Man, I thought Encanto was really weak. The themes were interesting but the story just went nowhere. It seems like everyone's going "yaaaay nonwhite faces and a song in a non-English language" while ignoring the fact that the story was just not... good.
I liked the device of a character living in the hidden spaces behind the "real house" and drawing clues on the walls. A rat man, you could say. Huge success. |

I watched After Yang because of Colin Farrell and AI somethingsomething.
It's a really nice movie. It's really slow and not much happens. Lots of moments of reflection. Great cast.

I found the fighting and exploding bad guys really jarring and out of place for an ET/flight of the navigator type movie. Really quite violent.
Imagine if Eliot had busted out a fucking sword and fucked up the guys in lab suits that took ET in ET? |

^^^ watched as a result of Wazza's post above. I think there was a better movie in there somewhere that just didn't hit the mark. Some great moments but things just felt a bit.... disjointed.

I thought Finch was good fun. The voice of Jeff was hilarious.
My head canon is that Jeff makes a mission back for the fallen little robot once Goodyear is safe with people.

I really enjoyed The Batman. Cyberpunk, heavy on the noir.
I could not believe that was Colin Farrell as Penguin. The fact he's awesome gives it away. Pattinson is of course the best.

It's so good. It fits the brooding noir detective motif to a tee.
I really liked the super-less element of the movie. Wayne is still obviously hyper-competent, but the fact he's overcompensating is much more on the surface.
