The anchor on Al Jazeera was somewhat uncomfortable just now when the flight specialist offering an opinion on the MH17 report just released didn't concur that the passengers would have fallen unconscious immediately after the rapid decompression and instead went into some detail about what they might have gone through while the plane tumbled.

I need a good analogy for the split of responsibilities between a Cloud provider like Amazon or Azure, and an IT support provider.

The best one I can think of is an aquarium. You're the fish, the cloud provider provides the fish tank, and the IT support provider cleans the tank and looks after the fish.

It's not very elegant. Any suggestions?

Housing.

The cloud provider provides water, power, gas, and the slab on which to build the building. They also provide access to supplies to build the house, often at very good prices (EG database services, network compute, etc).

They don't provide the expertise to actually design or build the house.
They do not provide any maintenance services for the house - repairs to the roof when a branch falls on it (major system crash), when a tap leaks (minor bug), or anything in between.

It works, just needs some clarification?

You own the fish, The cloud provider provides the fish tank, but you have to fill it with water and connect all the pumps and filters, keep the fish alive and clean it yourself.

IT support provider helps you fill it and get it running, but will also clean the tank and make sure the fish don't eat each other

Rental car company?

AWS gives you the rental car.
IT Support is AA breakdown service, as well as the servicing, WOF, fuel, tyres etc.

I thought of a kitchen analogy, but then I realised it was for a solution provider, not support.

Apparently WoW is at a nine year low of 5.5 million subscribers. That's somewhat mind boggling.

Blizzactivizard still makes enough coin to buy King (Candy Crush, etc) for $5 Billion, so it's not all bad.

Sobering statistic on Paul Henry today - that was more than George got from Disney. Although there were stock options, and those have doubled, but yeah.

A billion is a number that gets thrown around, but man, it's a big number.

A million seconds is 12 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years.

We lost what would have been our second boy at 14 weeks. I was thinking I'd be ok with his passing knowing that it's a normal part of life but it's not as easy as I thought and it hit me after going home from the hospital after seeing him. It's not that different to losing a child. Baby was perfectly healthy but mum got too sick.

Mr five years old isn't quite understanding of it and asks lots of hard questions and comments things like how his hands are too small to play the (Casio) keyboard. We couldn't not let him know as he was already looking forward to a baby sister or brother.

Flavor Flav is so creepy looking and... well... creepy in general, having seen Flavor of Love. He looks like you'd catch AIDS just from having him in your car.

Flavor of Life was kinda... kinda brilliant. It was like, exactly as absurd as any of those types of shows, without pretending like it wasn't, like most others.

That would be an awesome thrill giving someone like that a lift if you were a fan.

I'm looking at my desk going, that phone already calls my mobile so I can pick up calls away from my desk, that's an IP phone I could connect through VPN from anywhere and I could VPN my home PC back to the office to do work.

All I need is a timer on my office light switch so anyone doing a shoulder tap just thinks I'm out somewhere as at least two of my colleagues would be happy to play along ...

PSA: Don't watch today's Batman v Superman trailer.

It's a horribly cut trailer that's obviously a knee-jerk reaction to the Civil War trailer, and it completely gives away the third act in spoilers not seen since Terminator 2's days.
