Well, what you think of a well worn and used statement is irrelevant, it is generally meant as making the right decision - i.e... "If only you'd used common sense, you wouldn't have the clap, lad"

There is no such thing as "the right book" or "the right people" either. That theory is as stupid as your "Nothing good came from intoxication" rant the other day.

With her gimpy shoulder and annoyance that she too got duped by a troll? Naw, she'll just do the typical "OMG, STOP FOLLOWING ME" routine that most do, despite the irony in the fact that many people believe she only comes back when I'm around and seems to "validate" my existence here.

Uh-huh. The "right book" or the "right people" for one person isn't necessarily the right book or people for the next. However a great many parents will tell you that a well-timed piece of advice helped them through a rough patch.

To assume you know all there is to know about parenting and deliberately not seek information is to risk making a lot of mistakes that your kid will pay for. THAT is what I meant. Let me know if you need clarification, poppet.

Parenting advice? Usually if you're reading books in order to try and ascertain how you're going to raise your child, you're in a situation where you will overthink the matter and probably make the childs life hell with a routine of structure and expectations to directly match what is in the book you're reading.

I prefer the adaptive approach, using the experience gained from your life, your friends, your parents and yes, the ocassional book.

If your idea to parenting is "Lets do what Super Nanny's book says" chances are, you'll be a shit parent and your child will hate you.

Which would be .. the right people and the right books. What a long winded way to say "I agree with you entirely".

Again, no such thing as the "right people" and "right books". I think we've all learnt more in life through the wrong people, to be honest.

Being that you don't even talk to your father at the moment, surely most of your thoughts around parenting result around the way you were raised, doesn't sound like he was neccessarily the "right people" to influence the way you think, yet, he still does.

From our parents we take the aspects we want to pass on, and those we don't. We do the same with observations of the parents of our friends when we were younger, our teachers, and yes - god forbid - even that abhorrent TV nanny with the speech impediment. I've learned a lot from my father, much as you've learned a lot from yours. I'm fairly sure that at first sign of any intelligence from your sprogg you won't be firing her off to Mensa so you can boast about it to your friends now, will you. Now shall we lay off each others daddy issues?

Where people find the information that works for them is up to them, and I certainly wouldn't judge someone who gleaned a way of dealing peacefully with child tantrums from a book instead of smacking their child the way they were smacked when they were younger.

Knowing not to spout meaningless shit that is just wrong is common sense.

If you rely on a textbook to make decisions for you, you're never going to become good at making decisions. Those that read a lot of non fiction "How to" guides tend to become poorer at actually doing than their counterparts who wake up thinking "I want to do this, I'm just going to go give it a go"

Align it to what sp0nge was being beaten up over the other day, in regards to intoxication... it's those that break the mould and rules of the textbook that make the most progress.

I'm talking about getting advice on parenting from people you trust, and the occasional bit of insight from experts on the subject - whether they be child psychologists or behavioural specialists. Not about following textbooks slavishly, Haydos. I think you're getting a bit distracted.

I missed the Sp0nge-bashing the other day, tend to tune out and skip discussions to do with either drugs or religion - they've been done to death.

You trust child psychologists? Don't you see the trend of more and more children becoming more and more depressed/fucked in the head/socially repressed than ever before with all these affirmed child experts around these days?

You still, even after being shown up in the Pic thread, think I care about whether or not I'm given a fair go?

I post with my other account to be taken seriously. This account is just bullshit and giggles.

That's why you spend so much time fabricating stories for people you hate? Because you don't care about them? A lol is you.

BTW, you embarrassed yourself in the pic thread. But I guess your ego won't entertain any such possibility so you'll create an alternative reality for yourself. Great stuff.

I must be having 'one of those days', because I just think it's sad rather than funny to troll someone who has consistently responded to your inanities with calm good sense. I've been finding Haydos mildly amusing over the past few weeks, but this is just a tiresome bore.

HENCE WHY FOREVER ALONE

I attended a seminar last night for "Socially Responsible Business in the 21st Century".

Had great hopes for what it might have been...

Turns out it was a filthy hypnotist, pretending to be a business savvy "wealth dynamics" expert, and doing all these succeptibility tests, suggestive techniques and tricks.

I stayed along purely for entertainment and education (I love hypnotism :P) but it was very much a disappointment that he would swindle a bunch of people into buying books and CDs in the name of socially responsible business.

Roger Hamilton is his name people, if you ever get invited to one of his events, go along and punch him in the cunt/ruin his tricks by disrupting his method.
