Nope, if they googled some of the details on that phone they’ll quickly realise they’ve been sold a demo unit.

Well it seems that NZH have flicked the switch and have basically gone all premium.

About half of the front page is for Premium content.

I noticed that, fuck NZH, it's layout on mobile phones is shit anyway, so I don't give a fuck, therefore that is half of I want to read while I'm at lunch.

Are they making a pun? What does that Venn diagram look like? Are they excluding AI's? Are AI's binary people? Why don't they just put "No blokes".

Non binary can include gay and bi males apparently, as well as drag-queens & transvestites.

If you google text strings from the premium previews, half of them are copypasted from other sites anyway.

Anyone with a paper sub has a digital sub afaik.

They aren't too worried about the Chrome extension; one of the initial purposes of the paywall is to protect the paper subscription model in the medium term. The rationale loosely being that people will hold onto their paper sub longer because of the free digital sub.

The other reason for not really caring is the type of people who are savvy enough to install the chrome extension were never going to pay for a digital sub anyway.

So the Herald are playing whack-a-mole with the extensions. See It All and NZ Herald Premium Viewer for Chrome don't seem to be working now. NZ Herald Fixer kinda works but the Herald simply redirects to a premium sub nag screen. You can hit Back to go to your article and just hold down escape to stop it forwarding to the nag screen. I'm sure someone will just change the extension to stop the Herald auto-redirecting.

The content is still within the page, it's just set to display:none

Using javascript, you can do something like:

Code:
var list = document.getElementsByClassName("QUnWjUZnT0nf") for (var item of list) { item.style.display=""; }
Replace the class name with the one found in the page.

Edit: Oh, I also went into style.css in Inspect Element and deleted all the content.

If anyone wants to make a plugin to block the stylesheet, find the ID and run that command, good on ya.

Also, stop using Chrome.

I've made a temporary plugin for Firefox which works [for me].

Follow the steps from here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...t_WebExtension

In the manifest, use the nzherald.co.nz domain.

And in the Javascript part, use this:

Code:
var list = document.getElementsByClassName("QUnWjUZnT0nf"); for (var item of list) { item.style.display="inline"; item.style.opacity=255; item.style.color="#000";}
Note this is for educational purposes only, if you like the content, pay for it. If the Herald were serious about content control they'd stop giving you the premium content but asking your browser not to display it.

I'd be curious to know if everyone gets the same class ID or if it's their way of conducting a skinny girly arms race.

I wrote an email to stuffs editor about this article and how it was factually incorrect. originally it stated-

"The Oranga Tamariki Act states, anyone under the age of 17 cannot be arrested by police without a warrant, even if they would normally be empowered to."

and now reads

"The Oranga Tamariki Act states anyone under the age of 17 cannot be arrested by police without a warrant, except in special circumstances.

These circumstances include if an officer believes a youth might commit more offences, skip court, or jeopardise evidence/influence witnesses related to any potential court case."

no follow up email or anything, I just went to check it and see if they had ninja edited it, which they did.

remember when journalists would post retractions etc if they fucked something up? pepperidge farm remembers.

ChCh to get a trial Eagle Police chopper (Don't know why they need a trial to justify it, seemed to work pretty well for a few weeks last year around this time).

Needs a stock pic of the Commissioner - let's just cut and paste one from the last time we mentioned him. And leave the caption on...

Which is nuts, it has to be one of NZ's top sites for traffic.
Why such a low value?

Because presumably the costs that the business incurs to get the traffic are greater than the revenue that the traffic brings in.

Article titled Rolling Stones issue cease and desist notice against Donald Trump . Uncredited linked video - a tabloid news article regarding Tom Petty. Maybe it's an old one I thought - wait, it also mentions Juneteenth.
