So, was reading North & South magazine (don't ask) during the weekend, and they are running a 20-word short story contest, which I've been thinking about entering. As inspiration, they had a 6-word short-story, supposedly written by Hemingway, which I just can't stop thinking about:

A friend of mine is a voiceover artist and is the official "Telstra Voice" in Australia. It's her voice that you hear when you call Telstra, or check your voicemail from a Telstra phone, or hear an ad for Telstra, etc etc.

It's quite disturbing. Whenever I hear her voice -- even if it's saying "Welcome to Telstra. For customer service, press one..." -- I instinctively go to say "Hi Jane, it's Simon, what's happening..."

But it's weird from the reverse direction as well. Earlier this year when my job got cut in a headcount-reduction at work I mentioned some of the HR hassles I was having with my employer in a conversation with her. It was really weird to hear The Telstra Voice say "Shit Simon, that sucks. You tell them to get fucked!"

A minister's 16-year-old son allegedly shot both his parents in the head after they took away his copy of Halo 3.

Daniel Petric, now aged 17, is on trial in the US for killing his mother and attempting to kill his father. He has pleaded not guilty, the Associated Press reported.

Prosecutors at the Ohio trial said his parents confiscated the game after he sneaked out to buy it. They put it in a lockbox where they also kept a 9mm handgun.

Petric later took the game and handgun out of the lockbox. He came into the room where his parents were and asked them to close their eyes because he had a surprise for them, his father testified at the trial.

Prosecutor said he then tried to make it look like a murder suicide, AP reported.
