Currently a trip from AU to NZ and back again involves 28 days of self-isolation.

Bugger, there goes the quick weekend trip home I'd had planned for June.

My mother in law was due to fly back to NZ on Monday, we changed her tickets to leave yesterday as we saw the writing on the wall.

RIP to any poor schlep who works in enterprise access/gateways. I imagine most business units have failed to test/roll any BCP and now shit is too late. Checkpoint/RSA etc will sharpen the knives with those wanting extra licenses.

We've made several missions to Costco, loaded up the chest freezer. Stacks of flour, oil, rice, drugs, etc. We have enough to last an easy 2 months if need be. Run gas at home, have plenty of solar power to keep us going

I'm working as a digital nomad so travel is no problem. I'm really surprised that QLD are still sending children to school though.

Trying to order online from Coles or Woolworths is not great at the moment.

Woolies won't let me sign up - times out after submitting, but then won't let me use same email.

Coles just keeps timing out, which doesn't surprise me given how clunky their site is.

Last week was the death of the petrodollar.

This week may be the death of banking as we know it.

Mass gatherings (500+)? Nope! (Though does exclude education providers) - More guidance coming later in the week.

Zero tolerance for those ignoring isolation/quarantine rules.

Also incoming economic support package for businesses.

On the plus side, some deliveries from AliExpress are getting through.

PS - Dear Mr Trump - this is what decent billionaires do in a time of global crisis, not try and pressure drug companies into exclusive IP access.

Here in NZ we have a policy called the Open Bank Resolution (OBR) that kicks in when a major bank is about to fail. Essentially what happens is that every customer's savings balance gets a permanent haircut in order to prop up the bank and keep it going. This was brought into play after South Canterbury Finance collapsed in 2010 and taxpayers had to bail out investors to the tune of $NZ1.6 billion. The government of the time was not keen for that to happen on a larger scale with one of the major banks, so they shifted the burden to customers. It's hard to say whether OBR is a good idea but it's better than a total bank failure where customers lose almost everything.

Smart people have emergency cash reserves. To get them through times of crisis, if you follow.

Just finished migrating like 50 users across to a new domain on friday (resetting all laptops and using the godawful msft autopilot intune thingo)

Only had one rds box setup, now it needs to scale out to support everyone. So been organising that.
Plus we rolled a new phone system to our callcentre last week.

ffffffff And i only started 6 weeks ago

Had a meeting with fortinet last week before all this travel ban shite and they said they were getting a LOT of calls from people trying to ramp up vpn /remote access capcity.

shits gonna get real next week.

It's not good enough that banks that keep a fraction of their reserves (btw that fraction is now 0% this week, soo lend and invest the whole fucking stack) in the bank while the rest is gambled and invested. Then when that gamble goes toxic they cry to the government that they can't be allowed to fail because of all the innocent people who will be hurt.

So the government chooses the least painful option short term and writes laws like bail in, and the central bank invents trillions to keep the banks afloat. We get a haircut either way by a Cyprus type event, or currency debasement. Banks know they can play chicken with the economy all over again, and the government will save their skin next time.

Thanks Bill Clinton and the Glass–Steagall legislation.

Almost 7 million of us ordered to shelter in place for 3 weeks as of midnight last night.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/local-po...y-15135014.php

Spent all day getting as many users set up from home as possible, no time to jump in the huge lines for toilet paper or ammo.

Luckily I have plenty of both

Lines down the street at Sydney banks.

Albury is limiting withdrawals to $10,000 per customer due to demand but they can “order more cash in”.

Is it a bank run yet?

A joker at the pub confided that he walked into a bank and asked to withdraw $10 - was told to come back tomorrow when they had got some in - common practice I think. ATMs still max out at $400 here? Asking for a friend...

Stimulating the economy of course. Not stuffing it under their mattresses at all.

Excitement: A week ago I was in the same room as someone that has developed flu symptoms after a trip to Germany. Will know in a few days if it's the new big-bad.
