Expense, really - I can upgrade this old Intel box into a viable low-spec games machine for a lot less than the cost of a secondhand iMac.

Yeah, recommend 4GB min though, 64-bit Windows and 64-bit Java also recommended (runs MUCH better)

I'm currently playing Feed The Beast: Monster (based on MC 1.6.4 but with 196 mods added) just on my own PC until the orcon server is back up & running with the map for 1.7.x (should be within the next couple of weeks)

IMO the update from 1.6.4 to 1.7.x isn't really that fundamental unless you're into making giant Iron farms or villager-breeders. Some nice new blocks that are pretty easy to use, some sweet command-block features if you're an admin, but not much other than that. Use the Slime Block to make safe-falls looks like it'll be fun

Pipes had a pretty sweet Vanilla Creative server running for a while there, but had to shut it down - was taking too much time+money to keep running, that sort of thing.

Not really doing any multiplayer MC other than that.

I believe Waldo is playing pick-up games of Minecraft UltraHardCore (which is basic PvP survival minecraft, but with no health regen except from eating Golden Apples or making health potions) - something I'd be keen to try if we could get a server with decent latency to NZ.

Mindcrack UHC season 15 started today!

And I'd be keen on getting in on UHC if there was a nzg/orcon server setup!

Hmm... Might have to suggest that to Jimmy1248 next time I catch up with him.

6 people on right now. Often 7pm NZT through 9pm seems to be peak.
Check http://games2.orcon.net.nz/ to see who's on.

Nope: There's change in the server code a while back to stop that info being shared. You can still see chunk borders, but not if they're slime chunks.
