1. Planet of the Apes (1968) 2. Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) 3. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) Rise is chronologically the first, but the old ones will look like shit by comparison if you watch Rise first. Give all the other '70s ones a miss, they are well below par. The 2001 Tim Burton remake is an oddity with a flawed plot that doesn't compare to the original in quality. Some enjoy it but personally I'd skip. |

Huh?

Anyone else seen The Ides of March?
Very political (exclusively political, really) but one fucking heck of a cast, Paul Giamatti, Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood. Of course it's very VERY US centric but the tale behind it all is somewhat universal. Not an "amazing" movie, but a pretty well told tale I thought, if you don't mind the lack of action scenes. n.b. I would fuck Ryan Gosling edit: and Marisa Tomei. edit edit: I meant, Marisa Tomei is in the movie. Although I would fuck her too. Last edited by dylan : 24th January 2012 at 23:53. |

Girlfriend and I watched Descendants the other night. Seriously one of the best movies I've watched in a long time. Awesomely funny, perfect for a date.
edit: the review via IMDb paints it pretty well too http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1033575/ Quote:

He was crying in this movie! I even commented "Clooney's pushing his range!"
I don't care for him much tbh, but the movie had awesome reviews. The GF didn't really want to see it either but apart from Bridesmaids, I've never seen her lol more ;p It's hilarious! Honest! |

I found the The Descendants extremely over rated but worth a watch. The scene where Matt calls Sid a retard is LOL.

The Flowers of War: Rather intense, kept me enthralled the whole time.
The Help: I wasn't initially that interested in seeing it, but it was way better than I expected. Some lol moments and a little tear jerking at times. Both excellent movies, would recommend |

Concept was interesting yeah, but the acting seemed off and the story wasn't the best either. Also I was extremely appalled at the lack of security around the ability to transfer time/your life by almost a mere handshake? WTF. Way to easy to get killed. |

You learn that bit of information in the first minute of the movie. I thought Justin Timberlake did a great job, my expectations were very low however so that may have factored into it. Rating 3.5 out of 5.
Edit, didn't read blur's post, that's a giveaway - spoiler tags should have been used imo. Last edited by GM : 31st January 2012 at 16:54. |

Just came back from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. 3/10.
The original was far superior in that it did not drag its feet. The US version was boring, slow and far too talky. It's sad really. Fincher is a great director but this was utter shit. The only thing that saved it was the music which was reasonable. Save yourself the disappointment, watch the original film.

Seriously though, after watching the original, it struck me how similar the original Blomkvist is to Daniel Craig. Scenes were he looked just like James Bond, I can see why they went with him in the remake. But Noomi Rapace was so good as Lisbeth I can't imagine anyone else playing that role. I still want to see the American take, but mostly to see what they did differently.

The ending was more in line with the book but they changed around some of the story. Let me know what you think when you see it.

Yeah, beautifully shot and acted. He used subtlety so well in this film. Gosling is becoming quite the actor. Have you seen 'Crazy Stupid Love'?

Yeah - I have to take my boy along with the chap from across the road. The woman next door thinks he's strange because he and his 3 year old were having a massive lightsabre fight in the dark the other week (with FX sabres, not just run-of-the-mill plastic ones). The wife mentioned that she didn't think it was strange, and that the boy and I wandered down with our Fett/Vader masks on to join in...

Heh - I remember when he was about 2 1/2, and he'd been hammering ANH on the VHS. I was outside shifting firewood or something and he comes hooning out really excited. He'd been looking through the drawers in his room and found something like this:
He was convinced it was his light sabre that had been put in storage for when he was old enough... and wouldn't follow old Ben on some crusade. He was all "WTF is a birth certificate..?" when I explained it to him. |

Melancholia wasn't about the story though. It was about Mary-Jane going/staying insane. And her sister being one of those "I read it on a website so it's true" people.
In summary: you liked Waking Life and that has less story than Melancholia.
