yeah Human Centipede 2 sounds like some fucking awesome gore porn.

Maybe it'll take the torch from the Saw franchise...

(I wonder if there's another Hostel in the works...)

-edit
A guy wacking off with his dick wrapped in sandpaper! Hole-eeee.

Tom Six always wanted to make a hard core gore/exploitation film, but couldnt get the backing to make it. So First Sequence was made on the cheap to gauge interest. As a result of that film he got to make the film wanted to ie Full Sequence.

As for Hostel 3 yes its being made, but Eli Roth isnt making it. He's producing it though. The Extreme Hunting group have moved to Las Vegas in the third film. Unfortunatley its straight to DVD/Blu Ray and is directed by the guy who wrote and directed the dire Dusk till Dawn 2 - Texas Blood Money

You know what the problem with Hollywood is? They make shit. Unbelievable, unremarkable shit. Now I'm not some grungy wannabe filmmaker that's searching for existentialism through a haze of bong smoke or something. No, it's easy to pick apart bad acting, short-sighted directing, and a purely moronic stringing together of words that many of the studios term as "prose". No, I'm talking about the lack of realism. Realism; not a pervasive element in today's modern American cinematic vision. Take Dog Day Afternoon, for example. Arguably Pacino's best work, short of Scarface and Godfather Part 1, of course. Masterpiece of directing, easily Lumet's best. The cinematography, the acting, the screenplay, all top-notch. But... they didn't push the envelope. Now what if in Dog Day, Sonny REALLY wanted to get away with it? What if - now here's the tricky part - what if he started killing hostages right away? No mercy, no quarter. "Meet our demands or the pretty blonde in the bellbottoms gets it the back of the head." Bam, splat! What, still no bus? Come on! How many innocent victims splattered across a window would it take to have the city reverse its policy on hostage situations? And this is 1976; there's no CNN, there's no CNBC, there's no internet! Now fast forward to today, present time, same situation. How quickly would the modern media make a frenzy over this? In a matter of hours, it'd be biggest story from Boston to Budapest! Ten hostages die, twenty, thirty; bam bam, right after another, all caught in high-def, computer-enhanced, color corrected. You can practically taste the brain matter. All for what? A bus, a plane? A couple of million dollars that's federally insured? I don't think so. Just a thought. I mean, it's not within the realm of conventional cinema... but what if?

re: Hostel 3. Man, they've always got to Americanise it don't they... half the win of those films was the utter helplessness everyone felt due to being in a country where they spoke no common language and it seemed like every time a couple of the locals were having a conversation in front of them it was to plot their death/mutilation.

Being set in LA makes things so much more 'escapable' for the victims.

I understand Six plans a third centipede movie - do you know if that was his plan all along or just another "oh part 1 worked? I uh... I totally planned this as a two pa.THREE PART. Yeah. A three parter. ¬¿¬ "

Really? The Police Academy producers claimed that they intended to make it a trilogy all along?

Saw two movies this week:

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Eh. It's not 'bad' bad. But... it's just not that good. It was very much "just another chapter", and probably should have just gone straight to DVD.
Very much a turn-off-your-brain film, the plot holes were frustrating if you bother spending any time on it at all. (If you've seen it, perhaps you'd like to join me in wondering: how the fuck did the Spanish just happen to find the Fountain, that no one had been able to find for EVER, 10 minutes after the pirates did? And why did Jack's dad cameo and then mysteriously disappear WOOOO? Pointless? Could have been any character from the past 3 movies? SIGH. Did you not cringe at the last line? "It's a pirates life for me, savvy]". UGH. A little piece of me died with embarrassment at witnessing that scene.

X-Men: First Class
Heeeeee this was fun. Obviously, everyone's already complained that it was annoying that the accents/Country of Origins were all messed up (Moira works for the CIA and is American? Nurrrr.). Some surprisingly comic-nerd-accurate additions I wasn't expecting (how Hank gets his furry look), some neat cameos, and a solid background of Magneto storyline. Kinda hoping the same crew sticks around for an X-Men: Second Class (or First Class trimester 2 or something). January Jones worked surprisingly well as Emma Frost, and Mystiques story was shot out of a cannon and replaced with something that worked quite well. All in all, I came away happy, and wishing they'd skipped X-Men 3 and gone straight to this.

Super 8: big ambitions but poorly executed and the teen romance aspect was excruciatingly dull. Think The Goonies without the charm or sense of adventure and discovery. 4/10

Think of Super 8 as Steven Spielberg asking JJ Abrams to make E.T. for him in 2011 and that pretty much describes it....much less cute much more explosions.

I finally saw Black Swan last night. Great eye-candy, but even sadder than Swan lake. Not one I will watch again, but I enjoyed it, and both leads were brilliant.

Got a few spec/review blu rays in the mail this week and one was a stellar wee gem

Attack the Block. Movie is balls out madness. UK horror comedy ( with the brilliant Nick Frost in a minor but awesome role). Rather than giving you a run down, here is the trailer. No idea about a NZ release but I recommend buying it from the UK. With our exchange rate and amazon.co.uk free shipping it will be cheaper than buying it here when it does eventually get here. No theatrical info was supplied by the distributor, and I have not heard back from Optimum marketing as yet.

Solid 9 out of 10.

[edit]
link to product so about $28NZD all up (after tax removed).

Reign of Assassins

I needed some wuxia fix, after I got my samurai movie fix, but coming with with zero expectation because this is just randomly on the rack. IMO it is better than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (!!!). Swordfights are ok, but the romance plot is infinitely better. At least less depressing.

Transformers 3, ok watch - dont get me wrong it anit a game changer and is more or less t2 remade but the 3D is pretty up there. #Spoiler - 3D Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ass shot at the beginning might make you blow your load prematurely.

Left me more satisfied than Inception did..
Just watched this. Best movie of the year for me so far! It's only June but i'm thinking somethings gonna have to be pretty special to knock this one over before the year is up.
And yes, better than inception simply for the reason Emily Blunt is a lot hotter than Ellen Page. How fuckin fun would it be to get on the piss with Blunt?
