I find sals to be tasty, but overly greasy/oily.

I'm starting to believe that technology journalism and to a degree its culture (looking at mobile devices) shares more in common with Woman's Day and Reality TV than I'd like to admit.
On the up-side, I think the author of the Stuff article regarding the Android security flaw did a really nice job all-round. |

Yeah agreed re: salt but as far as 'authentic' NY pizza goes it's bang on. Haven't tried Epolito yet. Keen.

I've always thought Sals was particularly average. Never understood why people think it's good?!

Does anyone have recommendations for car audio installers in the 04?
I need a real craftsman, because I've opted for cable/charging for iPod/iPhone, over bluetooth convenience, and have ordered a flush-mount USB connector for the GROM unit I chose. I don't want any cowboys cutting holes in my dash.

Thought there was a food/cooking thread somewhere but couldn't find it.
Complete amatuer cook question: Am trying to steamfry some fresh dumplings (Aunty Dai's Dumplings - delicious!) on a cast iron frying pan with a lid (cause I don't have a non-stick frying pan right now). I can't seem to prevent them from sticking horribly to the pan. I used to have a non-stick fying pan which I used to have better success with, but how can I minimise the sticking with an iron pan? Yeah, I have been steamfrying them by chucking water in with them as well.
Tried again tonight by sticking oil and the dumplings in while the pan is cold, then heating the pan on high for a little bit and then chucking the water in. They don't immediately stick, but they always stick towards the end. |

Go down to your nearest Asian general store and pay $2 each for some bamboo steamers to stick on top of a pot (take the pot with you to make sure they fit).
Then wet them and spray with a bit of oil. You can stack the steamers 5 or 6 high to cook plenty of dumplings.

The recent bullets/guns/recoil/physics debate in the smartphone thread has lead to some awesome wikipedia sessions. My brain feels embiggened with useless information on how guns and bullets work.

My new favourite software: Scribus
limited feature set, but what it does it does very well. It's built to make sexy looking documents for print and publishing. Great implementation of keyboard and mouse commands (this makes or breaks software for me) Its stable! I feel like I can just slam away at it turning shit on and off and zooming around and double clicking everywhere. And it doesnt slow down or crash. ++ Works with images very well and has a good scaling engine. Also it seems to produce very nicely optimized PDFs It has a comprehensive styles system! Text styles, line styles, and all manner of styles can be created to keep all your shit pro. Properties palette gives easy access to your objects' properties. Including coordinates and size, which you can just dial in numbers to get things super exact. |
