Ugh... too long since I've done h/w diagnostics

Hey. Screen keeps blinking black for ~0.5s erratically, but none of the processes seem to be interrupted.

My guesses are
GPU Most Likely
PSU Next-most
RAM (but surprised if this, no crashes)

Sound about right?

It's definitely not the screen? If not that, then yeah, GPU next.

Don't rule out something as simple as the power cord.

In this order:

- Test with a different display

- Test with spare cables (power and hdmi/vga/display port whatever)

- If you are using a pci-e graphics card, disconnect it and connect your display to the motherboards display output. If that solves the problem, reconnect the graphics card and test with a different PSU, if that solves it, PSU = Problem, if it doesnt, then the card is the problem.

- If you aren't using a PCI-e card (ie integrated GPU) test with different PSU. If that doesnt solve it, new motherboard time.

Cables are most likely IMO, Screen, and GPU next likely.

Any spontaneous reboots, any artifacts on the screen? Excessively high heat readings?

Cheers folks, I've some diags to do. Pity I sold off my bits from the previous PC - spare GPU would be handy (no onboard gfx on mobo) will try hdmi instead of DP - don't have a spare display. Etc

No rebooting and other than the whole screen going black haven't noticed any artifacting. Will grab some monitoring tools to check temps - any recommendations?

Yeah, troubleshooting in the absence of spares isn't really practical.

Gosh, an actual computer problem post. Takes me me back to '99.

Also, gotta watch them connector thingees. If you have one upside down all the electrons might fall out.

Turned on the PC this morning, no signal to the monitor - weird, It worked fine last night.

Thought the worst, graphics card gone (but secretly hoped I had an excuse to get a new one :P).

Remembered this thread, dicky display port cable.

Thanks (I think?) stn
