The boy came a cropper off his bike today, moving at a pretty decent speed. Pretty dinged up all over, including his pretty face, but goddamn I am so thankful that he was in a helmet, that thing took a hell of a whack.

Fortunately when he came off the bike he was moving pretty much parallel to the ground at some speed so the helmet protected him from having his forehead sanded off by friction rather than from having his skull caved in by impact. His face did make some a bit of contact with the road though, and he's lost some layers of knee, elbow, and hip. He was spitting blood and I thought he'd lost his front teeth, but turns out he was just dinged up; I think a stone went through his upper lip and cut some of the gum above his middle teeth. Princess took him to the hospital tbecause she's, well, a mum, and I'm about to get divorced for allowing this all to happen to the godlike beauty that she made. Comments of "he's a boy, it's a bike, these things will happen" are not politically expedient at this time.
Still, not a tear was shed. Fuckyeah. |

Glassholes
I hate Google Glass and the concept of Glassholes as much as the next security conscious cctv hating skeptic aluminium foil hat wearing ludite. But I think there is a market for glasses with invisible Google Glass imbedded in them.
How hard is it to do this? Why wouldn't it work? How could it work? What would it cost to develop? This is not an ethical discussion, mearly the practicalities. Last edited by Flamen : 5th July 2013 at 10:04. |

I would like spectacles that block Googgles. So anyone wearing them looking at me would be getting static. That would be awesome.

Brain Games
Here's a fun trick from that series on Net Geo that mixes muscle memory with the senses. I imagine Lightspeed has probably come across this in his psych studies.
Here's what you do: Visualise a salt shaker in front of you, now close you eyes, poke out your tongue and pick up the imaginary shaker and shake "salt" on it. If you are one of those ambidexterous chaps that does salt with one hand and pepper with the other at the same time, then you might need to do both in this visualisation to get the result. If like me, (and I imagine GT) you are fond of freshly ground rock salt, then you need to use both hands and hold it with one and twist the top with the other. If you keep going, you can end up fooling your brain and taste salt. Weird how the brain works - try it at morning tea. |

ITIL foundation
Read the cliffnotes and sit the exam. If you work in a corp environment and loosely follow ITIL framework then that's all you need to do to pass the exam.
I had to sit through 3 days of 'training' just to sit some exam where common sense ensures a pass mark. |

yeah im not in a corp environment. I want the ticket but also appreciate that there's always something to be learned from any course. already use a prioritised ticketing helpdesk system and i'm big on the follow-up a week later thing which just adds to my job satisfaction but i'm sure I can pro this up a bit more.

Didn't think was thread worthy on its own, but I know a bunch of you use spotify, and I'm curious if anyone else is having issues paying them.
My cc that I've used for a year isn't working for them - spotify is blaming the bank, the bank says nothing is wrong. However, the spotify forums led me to another guy with exactly be same problem, and it turns out we're both with kiwibank. Anyone else had this happen or is it just the two of us? (Haven't gone back to kiwibank yet since its the middle of the night... And they *did* say they could see no reason it wasn't working when I called about 6:30 this evening)
