a day in the back yard
Little Chanel asks "Can I play in the back yard please?"
Simon says "Yes dear, but only if the grownup cats go with you and look after you." Chanel, playing in the back yard. Variations on a theme of dry, welcome to Australia in the summer. Responsible Hobbes, keeping an eye on Chanel. Hmmm. Manuel seems to have been distracted by the warm sun. |

And here's my two again, unfortunately Tengai passed away a couple of months ago (a car hit him, the poor little guy even dragged himself home but we weren't there (working) so we got home and found him just outside the cat door), but after some discussion we bought another bengal - partly to keep Keikan amused/happy and partly because we like having 2 cats around the house.
Keikan in her cat toy: And Keikan gettin down to some funky beats And finally the new addition to the family - Koji the marbled Bengal |

(Disclaimer - I'm not talking in euphamisms here) - We said goodbye to Trinity in the weekend, she's gone to live with friends of ours who also own her dad. The reasons as to why she has gone are complex and it's probably too hard to explain the why part of it without sounding too cold and heartless (not to mention that I am somewhat of an interested bystander in most of the goings on) - suffice it to say that she has settled in with Alan and Val really well already, they're rapt to have her and there's plenty of plans for both us and them (and of course Trin, who turns 5 in April).
It was plenty hard saying goodbye, she was our first real show dog, the mum of our first litter, she gave us our first ever Best In Show winner (Tonka), was the first of our dogs to ever win any In Show awards and a whole bunch of stuff I've probably forgotten about. The fact that I understand why she's gone hasn't made it any easier on me, I'm a bit of a wuss Anyway, I haven't given her enough credit, so here's some pics of our "Miss Tee Tee". Thanks for putting up with me, and thanks to everyone for making this one of the coolest threads on NZG. I need to find excuses to go and work in Auckland now, so I can go see her /a slightly emotional Mike. Last edited by Kryten : 8th March 2005 at 22:33. |

Chanel is getting desexed and having an identity microchip inserted tomorrow morning. The surgery will of course need to be conducted while Chanel is under a general anaesthetic, and I am, quite honestly, terrified. Even though she's now six months old her rocky start to life - dehydration, malnutrition, missing out on mother's milk, and poisoning - has left her with not-the-most-robust constitution. She really is a tiny little girl, and the thought of having her knocked out and put under the knife tomorrow fills me with dread.
And of course there's the pet-lover's dilemma of desexing. It's the responsible thing to do, but... damn. I feel like a right cunt. |

Only because you're such a trollop Si. Imagine that wee cat trying to carry a littler of six or more. You're definitely doing her a favour on an individual basis, 'responsible thing to do' or no.

She's a tough little cat Simon. To still be alive after all she's been through in a few short months is amazing. I don't want to sound clichéd or anything, but Chanel really is a fighter.
Kryten: Saying goodbye to a pet is the hardest thing, but you obviously had very good reasons for it. She's a stunning dog! I hope she settles in with her new family |
