Maybe adapt it to chase small dogs.... They'd probably enjoy it, which is a plus.

We bought a Roomba 780 the other day. I was able to get an open-box one for $620 and that seemed like a fair price for an experiment on whether these work. A few days on and I'm set on picking up two 880s to compliment the 780 when I pop over to the US in early April. Why? We've got a three storey house and it's just easier to have one for each floor.

This machine handles pet fur (two dogs, one cat and a pig) marvelously and it works absolutely as advertised. Indeed it does a better job than my wife with our Dyson; possibly because the wife gets bored before the job is done properly and she doesn't want to vacuum everyday where as the Roomba has no choice other than to start work at 3am every day.

How do they handle varying surfaces? Eg. from wood floors to rug, rug to vinyl, vinyl to feeces etc.?
Been thinking bout getting one, cheaper than a woman, but worried it'd be just as confounded by 'complicated' surfaces. The last one i had always glitched when deciding between broom or vacuum.

We're using it on tiles and carpet; it cleans both without problems and without us having to do anything. I've not tried it on feeces - perhaps this type of floor covering is common up North but here in the majesty of rural Albany this sort of stuff is never experienced.

The limit is about 1.5cm for transitions; the wheels are spring loaded and the underbody is tapered to allow transitions. At some point the cliff sensors kick in and stop it going over edges - it won't go down our stairs meaning the wife still has some small use for our Dyson.

I bought a new Roomba Red off Ebay about 6 years ago. It worked fine for a year or so then got it's knickers in a twist and would do no more than running around in circles beeping. Google told me that is was a firmware problem that could be fixed by getting a device from the manufacturer to plug into it to fix the problem, freely available from the manufacturer in the US. I contacted them in the states but they refused to supply the device because I had purchased the Roomba through "unauthorised channels", despite offering to pay the freight to and from the US. They suggested I contact the NZ distributor. At that time, their were none. So, I binned it. GT, be aware that this could be a problem if you purchase in the US. It seems that companies in that country don't give a fuck about supporting their products outside of the good old US of A

Just got an 880 home under my arm coming back from a seminar in the US.

I need three Roombas in total to make life easy (we have a three storey house). I had thought of buying another open-box 780 off of TradeMe (I see they're as low as $500 now) but instead I'm going to get a second 880.

The 880 does work better on tiles and the rollers are definitely staying cleaner while sucking up the husky fur.
