I think you'll find thats what the "ignore" button will help you to achieve.

You don't think perhaps the owners of Facebook thought "hey, maybe we could increase our userbase by offering more options"? The site is supposed to attract as many people as possible. Its only common sense that they would want it to appeal to a larger demographic than just people who prefer an almost static page.

Another reason for me to love fb.. One of my long-lost cousins from Northern Ireland tracked me down recently. I haven't ever had contact with that side of the family as my parents divorced when I was a baby. It's just so much easier to break the ice with people you know about but have never met when it's via fb. I like that he uses the word "craic" regularly, as if it's normal to me

NZG fb friends has been great too. It feels like a secret society, as RL friends have no idea who everyone is, but see groups of us talking about things from here that make no sense in the real world
