Attempt #2

1. Upcoming shows.

2. Eureka.

3. Sitting Sikh, standing stripe.

4. Lest we forget.

5. Street art.

Success! (At least with the posting). A sample of stuff I've been shooting lately. Photos are taken with various cameras - Canon S100, Canon 50D, Canon 5D MkIII.

(Blame Cyberbob btw, he helped with figuring out what I was doing wrong with posting before :D)

Some more stuff I've been up to lately.
MasterChef's sushi guru Shaun Presland was opening a Saké Restaurant & Bar in Melbourne, and we were commissioned to take images of the new restaurant as it was being developed on Melbourne's riverfront, to eventually turn the sets into time lapse videos.

In hindsight there's probably too much distortion on the edges (They were taken with a 10mm lens and corrected in PS, but not enough by the looks of it.) so I'll be adjusting that before they go into the folio :)

My favourite shot from 2012.

Still enjoying my Nikon 16-35 f4. Hankering after the 70-200 f4 now, the pennies aren't coming fast enough.

Yea I can see why architectural photographers absolutely need full frame (if not medium format) and top notch glass.

Yoda - Fricking awesome shot there I'd probably want to be closer to the ground to get more emphasis on the foreground, flowing to the back, etc etc, but it's still awesome and super crisp.

3 has promise. It's the woman on the wall looking downwards which creates a pretty attractive scene. I'm not a fan of movement though, I'd shoot 1/250 or above and wait for it to thin out people-wise, and for someone to walk past under the woman on the wall so she's looking down at them.

I'm a fan of the 'blurred movement with a few static elements' look. More emphasis on the static girl in front, with more blurred background (either by dragging the shutter or by fading to bokeh)
I like it

Most of my Melbourne walkabout stuff is yet to be developed. Will hopefully post a few in the not too distant future.

It's awesome. Would be even better if she looked totally relaxed. She's got a bit of the cat's bum look about her mouth though. Should have given her a glass of bubbly

I am a big fan of static street scenes so I think that biases me a bit... in fact it's by far my favourite type of photography. So I'm probably very biased.

Jebus, seen the price of 35mm SLR bodies on Ebay? It's enough to make a guy go back to shooting film.

With a quick google around it seems the mail-order shops charge around $10 to develop and print (6x4) a 36-exposure roll of 35mm, with an upcharge for scan to digital at the same time. So that's about 30c per shot.

Right now I could grab a new digital Canon 1D on Ebay for about $6000. Or a used analog Canon 1V for about $500. That $5500 difference would pay for a lot of prints. And the processing becomes someone else's problem.

I usually shoot film on an old Canon EOS 50E - does the job well.

B&W film processing isn't anything to worry about - it's easy: Costs me about 16c for a 24-shot roll / 11c for a 36 shot (works out about $4 per roll).

I need to boil the jug once, so be generous and add around $0.50

And then I just scan the film.

My Diana F+ gets a bit of 6X6 lovin' but, well it's made of plastic and is a bit too much of a toy to get used all that regularly. Costs about $0.33/shot

I've got a Mamiya 645 Pro that I use for shooting 6x4.5 (well, duh) which works out around $0.25/shot. That's a fun camera, great lenses, but a bit heavy as a walk-around + no autofocus.

6 could work if you were closer to the subject but otherwise it looks a bit flat.

Cheers! Friend of mine lives in Senegal and I was looking for hot places to go to over the Christmas/New Years break. He mentioned I should go to Sierra Leone first so I flew into Freetown then went up the coast hitting The Gambia then eventually Senegal. All up was 26 days in West Africa.

Sierra Leone was my favorite desitination, everyone is super friendly, the beaches are paradise and most of them you can have all to yourself. Google Tokeh Beach and you can see what I mean. Recommended.

This is how they transport you to the ferry in The Gambia, you pay a guy on the beach to carry you on their shoulders and the take you to the boat.

great pics. it's really good to see photos taken in a country that i've never seen before. So much of African photography is all doom and gloom - oil issues, war, famine, stuff like that - it's refreshing to see something different.

Thanks, Havs! I recognised Berlin because of the famous memorial, but not Amsterdam, and certainly not Austria. Nice story, BTW

Amazing-looking man with the two kids, herp, and I like the shot too.
