Ah yes, of course. Certainly I cannot foresee any kind of dramatic, inflammatory response to your position.

Yeah, I'm sure people won't mind others asserting that they shouldn't be allowed to make adult decisions about how they choose to relax or have fun without harming others.

Referendum for Cannibis will get Labour (with Greens) back into parliament.

I believe we will see a spike in the younger generation coming out to vote for it.

Yes, that reminds me of a rare radio interview I listened to. Doctor was talking about cannabis being prescribed for treating pain associated with terminal illnesses. Interviewer asked how it would be consumed, the reply being vaping, smoking, edibles. The interviewer:

"HAnG on HaNg oN hAnG oN, DocToRs pResCrIbIng sMoKinG!?1!?"

Cause, a) smoking is the only option, b) doctors never prescribe anything with harmful side effects and c) people with terminal illnesses are concerned about their long term health.

Is it a boomer thing or an uninformed thing.

Just heard one say "Those young people in Hong Kong need to give it a rest."

I didn't want to get involved.

Universities need to be returned to academia before we start having a sook about whether or not they support free speech.

Universities are lapsing generators of legitimacy, their significance ebbing as they switch to systems of cash generation in exchange for access.

Former Auditor-General Martin Matthews seeks redress over resignation

Quote:
Mr Matthews said MPs on the Officers of Parliament committee, including former Speaker David Carter and current Speaker Trevor Mallard, had acted out of "political convenience".

"They decided they couldn't be bothered to complete their inquiry, instead they said they were prepared to perpetuate a lie and to permanently destroy my standing and reputation if I did not resign.

...

Mary Scholtens said she was supporting Mr Matthews' petition because the way he was treated was "outrageous", "unconstitutional", and something that should be of "concern for all New Zealanders".

She said the Auditor-General's role had the capacity to annoy politicians of all stripes and their independence should be jealously preserved.

"It should not be possible for one of the few watchdogs in our system of government to be removed from office in response to unproven allegations, without a lawful basis or before a proper and fair process has been concluded.

No, it's just obvious to everyone watching that UK Labour was running an awful campaign with shitty policies driven by Twitter-bubble wokeness and was being led by an utterly unelectable leader.

I just couldn't believe that it had happened even though it was completely obvious that it was about to happen.

That's how white privilege works. When a European comitts fraud it doesn't stand out and nor does it tarnish all Europeans.

Howard Morrison, treasured Kiwi legend has been tarnished by the actions of his daughter. Not Howard Morrison, prominent Maori.

Moari King one I'll give you though, the media love to bash that movement (which IMO was a totally legitimate and understandable reaction to colonisation).

The whole concept of "wokeness" is upsetting.

It irritates me that in our minds we've got this concept of a culture of people ineptly attempting to use insight. Which is bullshit. There are lots of individuals out there ineptly attempting to use insight. Some even organise, but that's difficult when you're inept.

Instead, what's real is the presenting and re-presenting of instances of inept uses of insight that are easy to recognise. So that when insight comes our way to disrupt our lives we've got a "piss off ya woke cunts" up our sleeves. Cause we've seen it, they're dumb fucks! It's all just equine therapy and anti-vaxx midwives out there, amirite?!

Which is a feedback loop that starves genuine work towards insight, which generates ever more inept attempts at insight, which provides ever more instances to hold up to the world as evidence we should stay dumb fucks.

Because the world is full of cunts who somehow think we can survive the future without immediate and dramatic disruption. So instead we get the fire.

Hence my upset.

Oh boy you can tell it's election year.
Huge spending on infrastructure (& roads), borrowing cheap money.

And now the opposition is saying that Stephen Joyces is vindicated with his fiscal hole comment.

I noticed this in the Spinoff’s update from Waitangi:

Quote:
(T)reaty negotiations minister Andrew Little was given a rare honour by the tangata whenua of the marae. He spoke entirely in te reo, and without notes, on a range of topics, echoing former PM Bill English who also made the effort as a Pākehā leader to learn the language. The NZ Herald’s (paywalled) Simon Wilson wrote Little vowed to remain committed to the treaty settlement process with Ngāpuhi – an ongoing difficulty for the wider region. At the end of his speech, and after the waiata from the visitors, the hosts sang back – which is very unusual and indicates respect

https://thespinoff.co.nz/the-bulleti...t-at-waitangi/
No secret that I’m not Little’s biggest fan but rrrrrrespect. Good on him.
