Nice pics man - liking the church & the huts-in-snow. The repetition in the lanterns one gives a neat effect too.

Stupid question, but what manual settings would you guys recommend for an outdoor music festival? outdoor anything really, i just don't want to use Auto.
I'm trying to get a feel of what shutter and aperture to use in different situations. depends on what im taking a photo of as well, but there must be like a normal setting to use. |

Excuse the crappy photo, it's not worthy of this thread. And yes that is a meter ruler leaning up against it. It does, however, produce a stunning result. We have test prints from an Oce and the same file printed on this, looks just amazing. And hells teeth is canvas media expensive! |

Man, the middle east rocks, I would love to go back, but then again, I'm a guy, and it was an organised tour.

That second pano is brilliant, the downwards slope really leads my eyes through the picture. Would be moreso if that person wasn't in the right hand side of the pic!

Love the swan (?) pic. Was it floating on a lake of tar or did you black out the background?
|
19th August 2008, 19:39 | #231 |
|
I took a spot meter reading off the white on the swan. The water came out heavily underexposed as it was taken in bright sunlight. Then raised the black level slightly to drop out what detail was there.

I've just finished (well 1 more day to go) cycling across the USA and thought I'd post a couple of my favourite snaps from the last couple of weeks. I'm not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination, just point and click mainly, but once in a while I take a nice photo. I like taking pictures of the different landscapes mainly, heres a selection:
Thunderstorms rain band, near Jackson Montana Same thunderstorm, Jackson Montana The local air strip, Wisdom Montana Big arse storm, Stevensville Montana Mount Washington Wilderness, Oregon Climbing McKenzie Pass, Oregon Somewhere near Riggins, Idaho Overcast Skies, Prineville Oregon Early morning start from Mitchell, Oregon A slanty Butte, Mitchell Oregon Awaiting a handout & McKenzie Pass summit, Oregon

You've got some sweet shots there Silva!
Doesn't really matter if you are just a point & shooter - you seem to have an instinctive grasp of good composition.

Anyone remember a photo contest where they gave disposable cameras to pro shooters to see whether it was the equipment that gave you an edge? (suprise - it isn't)
I'd love to see peoples best worst-gear shots - disposables, cellphones, etc |
24th August 2008, 13:56 | #238 |
|
... So what if your worst gear is also your best gear?
Only cam I've got is a Canon 350D - even my current cellphone doesn't have one.
