Nice concept, but unfortunately it seems like the person in the shot was an afterthought, in a "what's that picture supposed to be, oh, there's a person there!" kinda way.
Possibly a lower perspective, less ground more emotion? Not too sure.

I think a radio-triggered flash tucked around the corner (back behind the person) pointing at the person to give a little more definition on the jacket would have made it mint.

Wibble: I like the shot. I know where it's taken, so can understand it.
Bob, it would've been taken from a bridge across the Thames at low tide. There's no way to get a lower perspective. |

Contemplating some serious photography courses in the near future, anyone have any info on particularly good ones around auckers that are worthwhile attending?
And to keep my post on topic ! I give you a sad panda! |

I spent a couple of days at the rally over the weekend, got plenty of good shots, decided to just choose one and share it on here.

Ricoh is nice as what it is, a small sized portable camera, best of it is its F1.9 lenses.
How's the Canon 550D treating you? |

The 550D is wonderful. The difference to my 400D is outstanding. The ability to shoot usable images at ISO 3200 is by far the best thing.
My old camera didn't have Auto ISO. This proved a pain when using manual, as photos would often come out under or over-exposed, so as a result I spent the majority of my time shooting on aperture priority. Auto ISO has fixed that, as I can lock the aperture and shutter speed and let the ISO auto-adjust to ensure I have a correct exposure. Great for street photography when I want to shoot generally around f10 and 1/200. I haven't used it much since Paris but am keen to get out and about this weekend and start a project I've had in mind for a couple of weeks. |

Simon: Thanks, regards to the clip.... LAZINESS : P
Heresy: that auto ISO function sounds very handy. I have heard only good things on its video ability, do you have any videos taken with your 550D? Revisited Sin City movie last week.... got inspired. |

Just realised I hadn't posted these.
The missus and I did a 'making of' shoot, documentry style for The Scarlets as they shot their latest music video a few weekends ago. Amazing venue, amazing band, amazing chicks ;D Clickies for more.

Nice shots Bob, I like the colours. You're getting some pretty good mileage out of that D60!
I shot another gig on the weekend, got a few good shots. So far I've been just doing it for free entry to shows, but the artists are starting to ask for copies of the shots for their own promotional use. Is anyone else selling their photos, and how do you go about it if so? |

Couple of HDR's taken while in Honduras (private island ftw!)... fixed up a little with the new content-aware shiz in CS5.

Really love the second photo. Would have been slightly more impacting if there were two people at the end, rather than just one, which kinda looks like a pole or something. (Kinda assuming it's a person, rather than actually a pole )
Got it in bigger sizes on Flickr or anything?

Sure.... Unfortunately at full res (8MP) you can see some slight blurring of the person on the end of the dock
Not too bad at this sort of size though. And yeah, it's a person... unfortunately (only for the picture!) it was just the two of us on that island, and I didn't have a tripod so I had to be behind the camera. Last edited by Gargoyle : 20th May 2010 at 21:18. |
