Thanks, I'll sleep a bit more soundly tonight. I had nightmares of Collins last night.

There's 3 more that you could add to the list.

Remember when Key was around and there were issues, most things went to Joyce or Brownlee.

I thought a similar thing when I read that.
Its totally within their control to have Covid flare back up, and I wouldn't put it past (maybe the far right of) the party.

But I would say a similar thing to the far left of Labour or Greens if it were to benefit them

Herald:

National MP Andrew Falloon quits after sending sexual image to schoolgirl

National MP Andrew Falloon is believed to have quit politics after an incident involving him sending a schoolgirl “inappropriate material”.

The Herald understands the image was not of himself but was sexually explicit in nature.

The schoolgirl’s parents alerted the Prime Minister’s office to the incident – and Jacinda Ardern’s chief of staff, with permission, notified National leader Judith Collins on Friday.

Sweet zombie jesus what's going on in National

Edit update to Herald article

The young woman was initially described as a senior schoolgirl but it is understood the recipient is currently a university student.

I'm wondering how sending a sexually explicit image to a school girl is not 'illegal conduct'.

Also good on Labour for passing the info over & not going all dirty politics leaking etc.

It shouldn't be praise that Labour did the right thing, but in today's world it unfortunately is.

By the time it's obvious what National is about the damage is long done. When they're not in a position to be bullies, they collapse.

All that's left right now is their exposed core. The likes of Collins and Brownlee. The election will show how brittle that old skeleton is. It could be a lich, then we'll be fucked.

Stuff was initially told the person Falloon sent the image to was a school girl. A source later clarified the person was a young woman over the age of 18.
Bit late when you've already gone hard on the school girl headline.

I find it particularly distasteful that mental health seems to be getting used as a smokescreen to cover up illegal conduct. Oh he's suffering from stress and depression, we can't confront him about using a carriage service to send pornography to a schoolgirl, that would be mean.

Mental health isn’t a political management tool

Quote:
National’s attempt to use mental health as a shield was not only disingenuous (at best), it also undermined the progress New Zealand is making in talking about, and understanding, mental health and wellbeing.

Normally I'd say "National's churn rate is a good thing, fresh blood, meritocracy, no room for dead wood" but the South Island electorate branches just seem to be a conveyor belt of entitled white male disasters.

Jamie Lee Ross - Mental Health
Todd Muller - Mental Health
Andrew Faloon - Mental Health.

Im sure there are others, but thats 3 in a couple of years where it would seem that the National party don't want the interrogation.

Collins and the party leaders really need to take a hard stand right now.

Basically tell the whole party for people to come forward now with anything that may cause issues.
Deal with the issues (publicly), and talk about how the rot is gone and starting fresh.

And maybe send someone down south rather than picking someone from the area

For sure. He was pushed into an untenable situation without being adequately prepared for the pressure. But fucking hell, it seems National has a knack for putting people in these kinds of situations.

You know, like a good volume of the NZ public during their last term in government.

So now Collins apparantly has a tip off about a Labour member which she told Ardern about on Tuesday afternoon.
And then conveniently starts talking to the AM show about it this morning (not sure if other media knew before that).

While I'm not saying that its not an actual legit allegation, it does show the difference between the parties, and Collins trying to deflect away from her current parties issues.

Iain Lees-Galloway gone. Inappropriate relationship with staffer. Must be one of those power imbalance things.

No, but the point was to give the party time to deal with it first. Fine if within a couple of days nothing had happened.
She has used it to try and deflect.

Im interested in this further.
"At the time the relationship commenced the staffer was working for an agency, not in his office."
He wasn't necessarily in a position of power over her (assume its a her).
So the only 2 issues I see is
1 - Did he help get her a job as a staffer? which could be a bit dodge
2 - Is he married? Is this what is making this inappropriate behaviour?

Edit. Yes he is married. So it's the affair that has made him have to stand down.

Well maybe the rumours about Clark and the nanny are true and Ardern is a bit pissed.

I wonder if it had of been someone like Robertson if the same reaction would have been taken by her. Lees-Galloway was an easier throwaway

I have to appreciate that while politicians around the world get away with worse and worse shit, we still at least have some capacity in New Zealand to call ours out.

Well it seems like Collins is taking some plays from the Trump handbook

Judith Collins says she was 'joking' when falsely saying no one escaped while she was Corrections Minister

So apparently when she raises her eyebrows, its a joke.

If it was just the 4-year-ago image, OK fine he was a dumb kid. However that mate he was hanging out with less than a year ago suggests he's not really learnt much and is still a dumb kid.

Future candidate maybe. Candidate now, probably not.

It's just a bunch of nothing. Beating up on National is popular right now, people have their eye out for low hanging fruit.
