Finally got around to fixing my broken logitech gaming headphones. They were all duct taped up, but I instead inserted some small metal u clips to replace the snapped plastic. Still precious, but working fine.

And then my daughter has used them non-stop so she can games with with our neighbour's kid playing mindcraft.

Getting back into contract technical work after too long off the tools at a big MSP, those sweet contract rates, being part of a good internal team again (even if on fixed term), 90% WFH, geek interest rekindled in fiddling with stuff.

Easily one of the best career moves I've made in the last 10 years.

Very well oiled.

I trust that’s wired speed and not wifi? Check your cables that everything is running at gigabit. I’ve seen isp supplied network cables with only two pairs of conductors meaning you’d only ever get 100mbit between say the ONT and your router or wherever such a cable was patched.

New windscreen wipers made me realise how f*cked the old ones were.

Just in time for this shite Auckland weather we've had recently too. Gears oiled.

Got myself an 80% Alpaca wool poncho. It's awesome - it's basically a wearable blanket with a hood - great for gaming on those cold days, yet easy to throw on (literally).

Sleeves are a PITA at the moment - both shoulders are more than a tad stuffed.

HENCE WHY FOREVER ALONE

I held on to a bunch of stuff - for my "garage/studio" (which I haven't built yet). My friend came to visit and we started sorting through all my shit, and she flipped my default from "keep" to "get rid of". She asked - "if you gave this all to the op shop, which things would you buy back, and how much would you be willing to pay for them?"

I've still kept plenty of things, but we've already donated a van load of things to the op shop, and I've got photos to list reasonable things on Trade Me that have been in storage just because I was hanging on to it for no good reason.

One person does not need ~60 pairs of socks and ~40 t shirts. I've got rid of so much that I probably don't even need a big garage to store my shit, and I'll never realistically set it up as mid life crisis "band space" and crank big subs, because I have neighbours. Reality checked.

Good man. I find it quite cathartic going through these clean outs, personally, and I tend to do it every time I move to a new place. I'm about to do the same thing again as I've "grown into the space" of my house (having come from a 1 bedroom apartment). I've filled it with "nice to have" stuff which just doesn't get used, and it's started to irk me. I've donated a bunch of stuff already, but now getting to the more difficult to move stuff (since I don't have a car), like desks, chairs, some work out equipment, etc. It'll be great to have the space back again (and so much easier to keep clean)

In a shock revelation that shocks no-one, it turns out that the "donation" is a tax dodge to save the founding family USD 700 million in taxes while retaining control of the company.

Maybe that's how we fund climate change mitigation? Make it a lucrative tax break.

Imagine how much money you must be raking in if your TAX BILL is 700 million dollars.

A dark day

Last week, when looking for something else, I stumbled on the March 15 Coroners report. A step by step detailed description of 51 murders. After a few wines, it was very troubling reading for a born and bred Cantab.

This report gives me hope. In the aftermath, we tried our best to help those that were in pain, and to present their case in a fair and just manner.

And we shall never speak his name.

Cunt.

resting heart rate is 49bpm, never thought i'd see this
fitbit also bumped my cardio rating in to the "very good" category, up from "good".

only took 2 years haha, well, my cardio rating was poor 2 years ago, then average, then good.. and has been good for around 18months.

honestly thought i would be shredded after all this consistent training, but my body just doesnt respond like it did in my 20s, etc (and i'm most likely over training anyways, as per, 7 days a week)

i guess losing over 40kg and almost halving my resting heart rate is the win
