Pretty much, yep. The party put him forward as a candidate barely before the election cycle started.

And he started pantsing Helen Clark in the house, which wasn’t easy even for veterans.

Wasn't it after English & Brash trying.

I'd barely call Brash's attempt a run at the leadership, was so half-hearted.

He did almost win them the election in 2005, though.

And that's running against the remarkably unpopular (for the time) Clark government. Not exactly a wild endorsement.

Note: Remarkably unpopular is more referring to Uncle Helen herself rather than Labour as a whole

Some National MP's aren't too happy with Judith (worst kept secret ever):

They could maybe have (yet another) new leader soon too. It's going to be a very eventful day for the National Party.

Haha. There's no way the timing is a conincidence. She just broke out the 'in case of emergency' press release shoebox of dirt she's got sitting there for a rainy day.

The crystal clear transparency of the tactic won't wash down well. It's just delaying the innevitable.

Looks like Judith's gone. Possible future leader Christopher Luxon, formerly of Air NZ, or Mark Mitchell (who?)...but not Simon Bridges Mark II.

After the Todd Muller fiasco, nothing surprises me. The party is a fucking basket case these days. It's in full Goff-Shearer-Cunliffe-Little mode.

I always thought Todd was in way over his head. He signed up to be leader but I felt like he had no real idea what the job entailed, or what he should be doing.
I wonder what's going to happen to him now? Maybe he'll change his mind and won't be retiring anymore.

My votes for Jan from Nelson. She seems like a no-nonsense lady.

But I'm not in caucus, and neither is Jan so bah.

Turns out I was totally wrong on this. Dean mentioned it to Collins only recently, not even as a complaint, and Collins pounced.

Someone remind me again of Jacindas Covid response, and convince me she wasn’t telling Gaylord that Neave wants a sister…

All these National supporters raging it up because the media is going in on him for owning 7 houses. Unfortunately that's too common for politicians. I'm more concerned what message it sends to our rainbow youth & women that people think it's okay to have an anti marriage equality anti abortion bible thumper to represent & lead the country.

What's worse, the 6 houses that a man who has never been in government has removed from the market*, or the 100,000 houses that an actual government promised and which were never built?

* for all I know those 6 houses are rental properties occupied by families

Labour have previously been taken to task about this. The news cycle this week is all about Luxon, not Labour.

So he's status quo with housing and a bigot on top of that.

Luxon's views speak volumes about his attitude to women
Quote:
Luxon’s views speak volumes about a disdainful attitude to women: in the pro-life doctrine women are dehumanized, merely vessels for delivering new life.

Forced birth – because that’s what the logical conclusion of anti-abortion is – punishes women who want to abort (while failing to protect the child.)
That's a mighty big rat to swallow.

That's the apologist beside the point line.

It's about his values and how they don't make him a good choice to lead our govt. Not only his shitty attitudes to woman but to the LGBTQ community.

The labour MP for Mangere has the same views as Luxon. Should he be kicked out of the labour party because of this?
