Samsung, HTC and the whole android world lining up for butthurts in 6 hours. Will the IP5 be the worlds 1st smartphone to hit 200 million sales? I think so
My only real question after so much has been leaked is will NZ pickup a first round release like the 4 or will we wait like the 4s? This phone is going to be harder to get than a decent act on NZ's got talent.

iPhone 5 it is
Looks just like the leaked pics. Yep, taller. Wow, 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the 4S. How the fuck? Side-on the whole IP5 looks the same thickness as the aluminium section of the IP4. iPhone 5 promo video is up at Apple: http://www.apple.com/iphone/#video |

Reflecting on this I can now see that my mother could do with a phone upgrade and this is best effected by my buying an iPhone 5, my wife getting my 4S and then my mother gets a 4.

So the new features of the iPhone are that its thinner, lighter and has a slightly larger screen.
This is fucking revolutionary people. I don't blame any of you for not being excited at all about upgrading your iPhones to this. What a let down. Steve would be so disappointed. Too much focus on samsung and not enough focus on doing the next big innovative thing and forcing the competition to constantly play catch up.

My biggest surprise this release: Iphones don't do turn-by-turn navigation yet. I just assumed they did.

Y'know how every second page Ab posts about record breaking quarterly sales for Apple and how rich they are?
This is why Apple no longer have any motivation to innovate. Why risk their 'it just works' mantra when they're destroying the competition at every turn without even trying? Boring. Isn't this how Microsoft almost imploded in the 90s?

Well I really like it - a much more consolidated design that signifies a significant increase in quality in my eyes.
The only absence I noticed was there being no NFC chip, but no major - a plastic card is not very intrusive but the less things in my pocket the better imo. |

http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/m...911-25pcw.html i guess the answer that one could take is that Apple doesn't really give a shit about what other companies are doing on a pure "gotta match feature sets in the feature comparison chart" level. The message from the article is that the Apple designers made a phone that they want to use. And I suppose one can take from the iPhone-3G-3GS-4-4S-5 progression that Apple is not going to turn the phone into one its designers don't want to use just because someone somewhere wants "moar innovation". They got it almost perfect the first time. |

I won't be convinced until I hold one in my hand and use it. The first time I picked up an SGS3 I got a soft-on because I couldn't touch every part of the screen with the thumb of the hand with which I held it, and I can do that on the IP4.

I'm a bit disappointed three is no NFC chip in the new iPhone... that would have given the banks a kick in the ass to sort their damn standards out.

iPad 2 to "New" iPad was an aesthetically resonating "Meh".
This is much the same. I mean c'mon Apple! Where has the spark and the 'wow' factor gone with your products? It's like the same suit but with a different tie. However you're telling everyone the real difference is that your underwear is brand new and REALLY comfy. Those 'fake' concept mock ups we saw in the year leading up to this release were much more visually appealing than this 'iPhone 4.5 and a bit'. The PC world are rubbing their hands with glee because I think some of their kind have successfully infiltrated Apple. It used to be that Apple didn't give two shits about marketing their specs of their machines. They were like "Oh yeh sure, it has some RAMs - but my GOD people, look at those LINES! Run your finger across that bezel there...feel it?". It was sensual. It was, dare say, sexual. And now? "Yeh, it looks the same, but it NOW has 2 jiggawizzes of thrust power and an ampicore thermo-blaster". I can hear the faint laughter of the PC owning folk rolling across the hills... |

I saw a quote on reddit last night which seemed to ring true - even more so now.
Something to do with that the iPhone/pad are the Toyota Corolla's of the cellphone world. They were awesome, new and something everyone wanted at the beginning, and now a few years down the track they are still pretty popular, so they dare not mess with the formula too much. They've gone from revolutionary to safe. I mean it's still working for them, and they're still selling oodles. The only people disappointed are the ones that expect Apple to be totally revolutionary with every product iteration. Last edited by Juju : 13th September 2012 at 12:17. |
