If Arizona is the decider that finally sinks Trump, that will be *kisses fingers*.

For a truer democracy there should be compulsory voting, but with the option of No One (or Fuck You).

There needs to be a clearer sense of how many don't vote because they don't trust anyone.

Turns out the "264" quoted by ABC included AZ - a premature call, though looking fairly safe. Most outlets have Biden at 253 EC votes, so basically 17 to victory - if Biden gets Pennsylvania (possible despite slight Trump lead - but less than 1% so will definitely be challenged for recount) then bye Trump!

Crazy numbers now that we have them to crunch. So far:

Trump support among all Hispanic voters: up from 22% to 35%
Trump support among black women: up from 4% to 8%
Trump support among black men: up from 13% to 18%
Trump support among LGBTQ voters: up from 14% to 28%
Trump support among white women: up from 53% to 55%

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK AMERICA

I think it was just good old fashioned scare mongering. Trump did a good job of deceiving people into believing things like the woke movement, antifa, and rioters were equivalent to the democrats and that he could save them from this. Also by weaponizing the term socialism to be anything left of them and the boogie-man that's gonna take away your money and freedom and give it to the lazy poors.

I don't think that Biden is a hell of a lot better but I do think that having a leader that doesn't role model all Trumps bullying and inappropriate carry on will be good for America.

I bet we will see more and more Reps come out now and start condemning Trump about his actions - because they know he is going to lose. So they will start flipping their stance

It's not over yet. An election that big there will be some irregularities.

Trump's team are going to dig up what they can, keep things dragging out.

It's not so much faith in people as it is faith in entropy. Fear isn't enough. There needs to be systems of control, which require competence, which current leadership is working against.

My takeaway is that a large number of people HATE the cultural left (not the econ left) and are willing to put up with almost anything, including incompetence, chaos, corruption and bad policy, to signal their views loud and clear.

There's no way that in a sane nation this election should be close. It should be fucking walkover. The Republican Party has been so effective at manipulating the system for the past 50 years - gerrymandering, voter suppression, its networks of "not illegal" soft money and PACs, etc - that it has a huge systemic advantage. That advantage is not going away. The Republicans still control the Senate and they've stacked the Supreme Court.

Just imagine that huge advantage but with a charismatic persuasive figurehead who can groom a similar successor. The Republican Party will never lose ever again.

The only good thing about Trump is his badness. He's so fucking useless and unlikable that even with that massive advantage he's not a guaranteed win. His repulsiveness is the only good thing about him because it makes him beatable. The next guy won't be.

While the GOP has applied itself well to subverting the system, it hasn't effectively applied itself to running the country or controlling the populace. They've done very well ensuring they're the ones who are at the top. But that's all they've done.

The country is falling apart. Chaos is escalating. Sophistication is declining. My understanding of the Standard Model tells me this is not sustainable. The only outcomes are collapse or reform. Whatever the GOP have gotten hold of, they're not going to be able to keep it.

Unless the US is effectively growing more sophisticated and/or the chaos is overstated?

There might be a case for a protracted collapse, or piecemeal reform. Maybe, if it weren't for climate change.

With demographics shifts like city folk moving and more ethnic minorities things are just gonna get more difficult for the GOP.

A sensible move, I hate to say. Biden has to project a message to Russia and China and North Korea and Iran and Pakistan and Syria (etc etc) that the grown-ups are back.

He's pretty handy at stealing contested elections too! Very sensible.

I don't care if Dems + MSM + deep state are actually stealing the election. get Trump out.

And Andrew Yang just got himself uninvited to the inauguration party with his "party of coastal elites" comment.

Really? You'd prefer [purported] corruption vs an actual democratic Trump? [not claiming either way is the real outcome]

PHILADELPHIA — The end came in all the places you’d expect, in all the ways you’d expect, with all the people you’d expect.

When news broke Saturday that Donald Trump’s reign was ending, the president was on a golf course that he owns in Virginia, playing his last round as a non-loser. In Washington, about 125 of his worshipful supporters gathered on the stoop of the Supreme Court to “stop the steal,” then circumnavigated the U.S. Capitol seven times, because that’s how the Israelites conquered Jericho, according to the Book of Joshua. And a pair of Trump’s most loyal surrogates made a defiant stand on the gravelly backside of a landscaping business in an industrial stretch of Northeast Philadelphia, near a crematorium and an adult-video store called Fantasy Island, along State Road, which leads — as being associated with Trump sometimes does — to a prison.

I just had a thought about the polls. Given the degree of voter suppression the GOP undertakes, it makes sense that fair polls would show an advantage for the Dems that doesn't play out in the vote.

Exactly. How you intend to vote doesn't matter much if there's only one polling station within 100km, it's open only for 10 minutes, and to get to it you have to walk through a minefield.

Just like James Clapper casually admitting CIA has infinite weaponry to fight Trump if he goes against the intelligence agencies, it's better they feel comfortable enough that they openly admit to playing dirty. Then we all know where we stand. .. and Bill Hicks gets proved right on his JFK bit.

Hell, people like AOC are already quite openly compiling lists of people who helped Trump, so they can hunt them down and "help with healing the nation".

I think it's better that Trump is gone, he's served his purpose in many ways. but him being president is rotting the brain of the entire world and bringing out some bad behaviour all round.
