Shit load of sand we placed down this evening in the mob tower base.
That lava down in the water is deathly.

Scoop rather than sand/gravel the lava and you can use it in smelters. It's actually viable now that buckets aren't consumed by it.

Cobble: I'll work on raiding A Corpse's stash tomorrow night (I'm out tonight until ~10pm at least)

I'm actually quite keen to get a mob-sorting mechanism going so that we can use zombies just for XP, skellies for toggable XP or arrows+bones, creepers for just gunpowder, and spiders togglable also. Any squids that spawn are just for lulz or ink.

Brilliant sum up Crocos.
Maximising the mob trap design and separation of mobs will be awesome.
Will try get some of chests, torches, signs, iron shovels, iron pickaxes and ladders made later today; placing them at mob trap entrance in chests.
Need some bones tho?

You know I've always wondered about the mob traps we've built in the past, whether or not they're actually as effective as they could be? Because in MC don't the mobs only spawn only 100 something metres away from you? so were there actually mobs spawning at the top of our towers in the past?

I would imagine ideally a square or a sphere would be ideal? assuming it is even feasible. Why is the reason we make them rectangles? is it just because it makes it easier?

Yeah, in theory you'd have mobs spawning in a wide ring around the central collection point. Would be a sod to design though.

there was a code change in 1.3 where mobs after x distance from you no longer move.

That's because Cowboy erased the dynmap a while back. Someone was exploring way beyond the realms of reason and filled up the server HDD.

Yeah that map is just too big to render at high res (as it is now) for the entire map. Dynmap itself is 15gb. I think it was about 30 before I pruned it.

It is ugly though with all the patches but it's either that or I render the full map at reduced resolution. Which looks worse imo.
