Im very disappointed with the many aspects
1 - National won outright. I think having to rely on a couple of parties is a good thing. Although not having to work with Peters is a good. Also the right will only ever be the party that could get to 50%, due to the fact that the Left is split up. If labour ever got to 50%, then national would be absolutely screwed. 2 - Greens didn't do as well, although they are generally favoured in the special votes. Im sure last election they got an extra seat from it. 3 - The number of no votes. They should add a "No Vote" to the papers. Its seems like a lot of comments around are people saying they didn't vote because they couldn't relate to any party. So it would be good to actually know what the breakdown was between them and people just not voting. 4 - Winston got so many votes and got back to Parliment. Althought I guess nothing changes. He will disappear for 2.5 years and will pop back up for the next election. 5 - ACT got back in. Although it might be funny to watch Seymour flounder around. 6 - That 1 party got 1.3% and has 2 people, another got 0.6% and has 1 person, and the first got 0.3%(?) and has 1 person. So there are 4 people representing 1/50 of the population. But the other party got double that and represents 1/25 of the population and got no one. |

a) it's a good look, and b) specials are still to be counted and that 61 could still drop, and c) it would insulate National against a sitting MP going rogue and fucking everything up. |

I just dont get Winston at all. He's had so many chances to make positive changes for the country but its like his ego gets in the way.
The one politician who could have done really well and been noted for it instead of being known as a party bitch making a deal with anyone who will listen. I l watched him give his "we lost speech" and he really gave a lot of good thoughts.Too bad he's the bart simpson of the political scene constantly under achieving but every now and then giving a glimpse of what he is really capable of. |

While its feasible to easy commit voting fraud in our current system, I don’t believe it is wide spread to the volume that would have affected the outcome of this election. As you would require 1000’s of people to be doing it.
In any case a recount won’t for sure pick up those fraudulent votes Also I think if the margin is with in X amount this triggers an electoral recount anyway

The question people should be asking is why people don’t feel compelled to vote.
Te Hana polling booth only had a total of 10 Maori voters, despite over 900 Maori voters living within 10 mins drive. Id really like to know the split between I don’t care, and I don’t feel engaged. The danger zone for non-voting is 40% , because then you start to get into massive issues about legality of governance with parties that win only ¼ of the actual population having a say.

I think a lot of people think "I'm just one person, how is my one vote going to make any difference?", so they don't bother.

Are you getting at how 102.95% of Auckland Central 65 to 69 year olds are enrolled?
That's simple: The "Total Eligible" population is an estimate.

Who are these 18 - 24 yr olds living in Auckland Central? I note that 61.7% of the electorate is European and 30.5% are Asian. I don't know what the age breakdown is, but I'm willing to venture that most of the 18 - 24 not registered are Asian students who don't give a fuck, don't feel they're represented by any particular party (especially the ones who are hating on Asians) or just don't understand what their obligations are. The rest are honky dipshit students.
As for 25 - 29 and 30 - 34... probably a bunch of deadbeat hipster douchebags.

They might if they weren't so busy showing everyone how cool and blasé and disaffected they are. Oh, and ironic. They're being ironic.

I'm assuming it would increase Democratic participation. Or maybe just protest votes (which I think would be better than not participating). Would need to look at some case studies.

I think you should vote, and there should be an option to abstain with reasons. that way you get votes and you data on why people didn't vote at the same time

Except we all have to participate. We can't run to the hills anymore when we get fed up with what the majority imposes.
