Too early to call at this stage, but Nats DO look on track for a simple majority, no need for a coalition partner (although they'd be fools to turn away the Maori party or take Winston instead if it's avoidable).

Interesting how all the rural areas (exception: Napier, West Coast) have gone National, while most of the city centres are Labour.

The liberal cry factory on some other forums I read is convinced (trying to convince itself?) that the left vote comes in later on in NZ elections.

What, along the lines of "liberals vote earlier so their votes are at the bottom of the ballot box"? I voted left this year, but that's just retarded, lol.

"the early returns always favour the right wing, and the left always surges once the big inner city polling places finish counting"

Labour's lowest share of the vote since 1925. National possibly able to govern alone. Insane numbers.

Some fucking terrible strategic voting from Green voters, Dunne would be gone if they'd voted for the Labour candidate.

That, plus no Conservatives and Winston not being kingmaker means this is a Very Good Election.

Wait so negative campaigning is bad? Wasn't that what Cunliffe was trying to say the whole time. I can't remember I haven't seen any coverage of him in days.

Obviously pretty disappointed being a Green supporter but I'm always going to have false expectations living in Wellies (30% party vote Green). However, stoked that conservates & internet mana didn't get in, act only have one seat and Winston doesn't get to be king maker.I'd much rather National get the far right vote.

Well done National.

Looks like, except a couple of new faces, Labour is going to drag same old leaders into the parliament and the young list MPs are going to miss out - the ones that they need.

Bit dicked about the fact that ACT wasn't wiped out completely and NZF still has many seats but happy that Colin Craig and Hone.com aren't going to be there.

The left just got buttfucked. After all the dramas of the past month what happened was National increased its share of the vote. Labour lost votes, Greens lost votes, Mana got kicked from Parliament, Internet Party was stillborn... and National has achieved an absolute majority in an MMP election. That's not supposed to be possible.

An amazing result.

Objection!

I couldn't bring myself to vote for National after all the crap involving Judith Collins (she's close to the only human being on earth that I'd wish terminal cancer on) and Cam Slater (closer second re: wishing terminal cancer upon someone) but the results are just amazing.

Conservatives got close but fucking bounced? FUCK YEAH. Labour's vote down? More of that shit, baby. Green vote down? YES! Kim.Dot.Crim Mana gone? Fucking orgasmic shit. Winston First having to sit around being ineffective opposition? Priceless.

Now if Judith Collins never comes near the cabinet again, I will be very happy.

Nicky Hager might as well start writing his next book - Dirty Politics: The Left - and see if it ends up lifting Labour's vote.

A few opinion points:

- National up exactly 0.75% but an extra 2 seats from that. GG to them.
- Labour winning 6 out of 7 Maori seats further shows that Maori are not happy with the MP supporting National.
- If the Internet Party hadn't came about then things would have been a lot tighter ie it's pretty hard for Labour to get back voters from National with KDC on the scene.
- Keep Cunliffe (for now) he had a relatively good campaign and his popularity is slowly rising as people get to know him
- Hopefully National having an absolute majority means that they won't be able to pass redic policy in the name of ACT ie 3 strikes
- 3 more fucken years?!!? lol

Read one opinion piece that Key might still talk to Winnie, to play the long game to the 2017 election
But it was just an opinion piece.

Still, where would you want Winnie? Outside pissing in, or inside pissing out?

The while election has defied commentators. Politics, eh? Gotta love it!
