Or, I wanted to see if you'd validate my opinion by attempting to refute it with a comparison to me.

You want to be like me. It's so cute. I'm touched.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has announced that he wants to develop a nuclear programme with the aid of his country's ally, Russia.

Mr Chavez emphasised that he wanted nuclear power only for peaceful ends, citing energy and medical purposes.

But the announcement, on top of large weapons purchases, is likely to feed growing concern about the increasing Venezuelan military power.

Venezuela has spent $4bn on Russian arms and plans to buy more from China.

I did this. We left for overseas the next day and my passport was in my maiden name so I had no choice. You can't get a passport in the new name without the marraige certificate. I did try because my passport was close to running out and my pic was of a 15 year old in school uniform......with a perm.

My wife has ID in both names. Passport is maiden name, Amex card in married. Basically, she views it as not worth the effort of getting anything changed.

The only issue is for me to remember which name to use when buying something important e.g. airline tickets in maiden name etc.

I really don't understand the "woman changing last name" bit. Why don't the MAN change his last name when he got married? I know it is all tradition etc. etc. but isn't it a misogynistic tradition as well?

You don't like tradition? I don't see this one as a bad one at all. For me it keeps the family unit as a whole.

At the expense of breaking the woman's (perceived) family tie?

So Ms Smith marries Mr Blogg, and after the wedding Ms Smith has to drop her Smith last name and take up Blogg's family name.

I say everybody keep their last names. For their kids, the last name can be a compound Blogg-Smith or Smith-Blogg. (I know some people do this.)
