It seems like the Russian space program of the early seventies was still a bit of a boy's club.

Exhibit 1 - Russian lunar soil sample return probe - flying cock and balls.

So popular in the Communist world, it was celebrated in Poland (and Cuba too):

But top marks go to the chap who decided to paint the return pod a different colour. I think Austin Powers and Doctor Evil got beaten to the punch.

One of the girls at work has some hemp based hand cream, and it triggered a smell-memory from the 80s - it smells exactly like he-man action figures used to smell like.

1-Day sent me more spam* today. It looks err... suggestive. I mean... you don't want that to fall out of your bag, do you?

* Why do they keep sending spam on a daily basis? It's as though they think I've asked for it or something!

Can someone quickly explain why the BBC were fined over the Cliff Richard thing?
I haven't seen the footage etc. But from a simple POV. The police raided his house. The BBC covered the raiding of his house?
Isn't that just covering a news story

Or did they take it further than that?

I can't decide if the texts are a fireable offence or not, but they're definitely Twitter time bombs. Probably any public figure should have a PR company go through their Twitter history and delete any potential troublesome tweets, in case said public falls foul of some SJW who has a bone to pick.

Or... y'know, just not do the Twitter.

The wife and daughter have popped out to watch the new Mama Mia movie.

My mind drifts back to one of my favourite albums of all time.

A Flying Nun compilation.

So I bring up the YouTube on the telly, and find Super Trooper.

Goodness me - Fiona's vinyl pants are something quite special...

Fiona was fine, no argument here.

I’ll never forget an interview she did on tv back in the day, got asked some “how did you get where you are, how did you achieve this thing, reach this point in your career” sort of question, and she replied “I sucked a lot of dick”.

On TVNZ. In the nineties. It was glorious.

It was the role of Pakita in the musical stage play of BrainDead. Although I remember it as an interview on TV3 nightline. But I could be wrong.

Makes her appearances in Tv One infomercials for Gladwrap (or something as banal) weird.

Randomness abounds.

I'm collating the bits to rebuild the first computer I had - the old DSE Super-80. Wikipedia indicates that DSE touted "over 2000 sold" - so not a popular item that is easy to find in the wild. Rebuilding based on a project team that have retraced the original PCB an done a small production run is the way to go.

So this week I was on Ali Express picking up some weird IC sockets sizes, when I flicked to TM, and in the Vintage Computing list I saw an ad for a magazine from 1981. The thumbnail was the cover, and it showed a familiar PCB and pile of components that I recognised immediately.

How random that (1) a magazine other than Electronic Australia (who ran the build articles) would show a kit with such low sales as a cover lead, and (2) the very same day I was looking at sourcing some of the bits.

I think the universe is taking the piss again. Or it's cognitive bias or something.

But yeah, I had to buy the mag...

Fuck Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux. They are Milo-level agitator poseurs testing the limits of tolerance just so they can make a point of how intolerant "progressives" are.

Look, if you go to a Mosque with a camera with the sole purpose of telling them Islam is a terrible idea and a disturbance to the peace happens, YOU caused the disturbance to the peace! I don't care how calmly intellectual you try to come across. It's not Sharia law just because the Policeman sees through your charade, and doesn't want the headache of cleaning up after your stunt.

Fuck you Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux. You're not Charles Murray, you're not Steven Pinker. You make no attempt to change anyone's thinking and only aim to amplify the extreme viewpoints to produce angry reactions and appeal to your existing audience who love watching the spectacle.

Well yes there’s always that 😉

I got sick of buying work shoes that fall apart after six months when my 23-yr-old DM1460s are still going strong and more comfortable than anything else in my wardrobe. So I got some dressier-looking boots in the Amazon Prime sale and fark ow ow ow.

Iirc my 1460s has me in pain for 6 months.

Pixie - HB! The above post got me wondering about the number of birthdays I've had while on these forums. I just did the math, and in June I passed the tipping point where I've now spent over half my life being an active NZG member.

(Don't go by this account start date, I had one before this.)

I wonder if you’d get a reaction from people if you walked around a supermarket somewhat not-so-casually carrying a peach and cucumber/eggplant.

Wish there was a website that charted sickness rates.

I’m hearing comments that attendance of many kids activities have had numbers down by as much as half with a workmate of my wife saying that half their kid’s class have been sick. All with the same symptoms.

Music school reporting the same. My workmates saying the same for their families.

Our sproglet is probably on his last day of leave tomorrow.

Started with feeling generally down, then three days of fever (39, 39.5, 39) with symptoms similar to slapped cheek then spewing up his meals and not able to keep much down other than toast.

Teachers strike timing is perfect.
