Happy for Joseph Parker that was a great performance vs Deontay Wilder.
His ranking is looking very healthy now

Thumbs up

I went up to Mum's on Wednesday and we did early Christmas on Thursday (more like a solstice celebration I guess). The intention was that my sister and her fam came to Mums and we did our thing, and they could spend the day with the other half's fam on Christmas Day. Except that family "all got COVID" so their Christmas is cancelled. They were also avoiding ham because "it has nitrates" - fucking weirdos. It's once a year, eat the ham. I don't eat ham during the year either, so what's the big deal? I don't eat pavlova usually either, and I'm sure it's not "good for you".

My sister and her man are fist pumping and glad they don't have to go, and are heading up to the beach house early. I'm just glad it's over - I got fed so much ham and boil up. It will be peaceful tomorrow to wake up in my own bed, have absolutely nothing to do, and might bust out the nitro RC car or if it's crazy hot, sit in a paddling pool in my undies.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Steve Ballmer is set to make $1 billion a year

Quote:
For most people, passive income is a bit of extra pocket change that requires minimal effort to earn to supplement a main source of income. For Steve Ballmer, it’s $1 billion.

Ballmer, the sixth richest person in the world, is due to collect that much in dividends from Microsoft in 2024. This comes after the tech giant boosted its quarterly dividend payout to 75 cents a share, or $3 a share annually.

Price of a block of cheese going up:

All tariffs removed from New Zealand dairy entering China

And with dairy having that much more money to lobby the government with, I expect the definition of what a clean waterway is going to shift again.

Francis Ngannou vs Anthony Joshua is a done deal. I'm so pumped! Francis did incredibly well vs Fury.. this is such an awesome time for boxing.

People think Francis is big, cannot wait for the face off, then people will see how much of a specimen Anthony is.

PUMPED A F

ive been talking to this chinese chick for about 4months via tinder(literally the only person i've talked to the entire time i've been on there, i'm so antisocial), anyways, she goes to church etc and seems like a nice person. she asked me to go hiking so i'm collecting her on sunday after church and we're heading out to hunua ranges to do Supension Bridge Loop+Wairoa Dam Lookout. hopefully goes well. just want a companion that wants to go hiking, fingers crossed.

edit: i've ignored everyone else that messages me because i kinda don't understand how to do a date when i don't drink, etc. i guess after 3 years i'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate sobriety into my third life (work/home & then world), i've mostly avoided my world life, but trying to get past that.

While everything else is a bit shit I had a bit of fun with some old beaten up classical guitars I got hold of. Pulled the frets of one and converted it to a fretless - certainly not a top notch result but it plays, holds tuning (mostly) and is an extra challenge. Got another one which I'll probably do the same too eventually - but with more care.

Been thinking about taking my kids out of school and doing homeschool with them. The education system is no longer fit for purpose in the information age. The school system in its current form is a babysitting service that manages the behavior of its students.

Also, a lot of kids are fucked up and have been institutionalized since they were babies as their parents (rightly or wrongly) sent their babies into childcare environments for anywhere from 30-50 hours per week.

This is seriously one of the biggest reasons I decided not to have kids. The things they go through now ... fuck that. I just thank the flying spaghetti monster there were no smartphones at school when I was being a dumb cunt back in the day. If I ever ended up in the position, I would 100% consider home schooling; social interaction could come from selected extracurricular activities

Yeeep. Got word from some people we know who have a daughter that is beginning school and is quite neurodiverse. The family have govt funding to have a full time special needs teacher for the first two weeks of school. The family went to the school to discuss the matter and the school rejected the family stating that they have their own special needs program. i.e. take the kid out of the room and put her in a room with other kids who have similar issues and give them colouring in books to scribble on, while the school then submits their own request for funding from the govt and takes the cash with little/no support for the kid.

We're neolibs. Kids don't got no money so they get no resources.

Imagine if we started making sure classrooms were places passionate teachers were eager to be. They'd get all lazy and entitled! The kids they teach might grow up to be assertive! They might... stand up to their bosses!😲

If parents are relying on teachers to teach kids on how to be assertive then they fail at parenting.

There are some average teachers out there.

I'm not trained in providing kids a formal education so would leave it to those who are.

Yep, that's neoliberalism.

Make everyone beholden to their employers before anything else. In this way we maximise the number of parents failing their kids. Which maximises our pool of vulnerable people to exploit.

Schools only exist to ensure a minimum of kids make it to adulthood able to read, write and do what they're told.

Nope, it's plain old bureaucracy. Always has been.

To determine the individual time the teacher could spend with each student, you can divide the total time (in hours) by the number of students. In this case:

Individual class time per student per day = Total time / Number of students

So, for example:

Individual time per student = 6 hours / 24 students

Individual time per student = 0.25 hours or 15 minutes

Therefore, the teacher could spend approximately 15 minutes with each student if evenly distributing the total time among all 24 students.

The teacher does not and cannot afford to ensure each individual child is processing and analyzing the information correctly. As i mentioned, the current schooling system is no longer fit for purpose.

Bureaucracy is the function of assigning resources to the deserving. The fewer resources available, the more bureaucracy is needed to fend off the increased volume of needy.

Individual time is for parents, if parents need schools to hand hold their child then they fail parenting. 🤷

If they've been approved that funding then the child's needs will be absolutely serious. They should also have been assigned an advocate or they'll have the ability to do so. They need to have their advocate engage with the school.

That could be addressed by spending more money on effective bureaucracy, but that would mean less money available for the actual services, which would necessitate more money spent on even more effective bureaucracy, which would would mean less for the services, which would mean...

Well, as long as homeowners get to keep making massive capital gains I suppose, it's all working fine. THAT is not something that needs addressing.
