Apparently there's some suspicious crossover between the people who won the class action lawsuit and the people being deported by ICE.

I accept that, despite this being exactly the kind of behaviour you would see out of an authoritarian government, the relationship between these two incidents may be coincidental.

IMO Trump raised the whole "lets buy greenland" thing to distract from the Epstein stuff and it's worked spectacularly.

Not exactly the greatest plan since 1 in 3 residents of Greenland report childhood sexual abuse. An inconvenient truth :P

Not sure why Trump would want to buy it, unless he plans to extend the Thule Air Base for his Space Force, or general dominance of the North Pole (they already have a presence at the South Pole).

"The Chosen One" (lol) works in mysterious ways.

Given the volume of crazy Trump is spouting right now (in the context of normal background crazy), it hurts Trump far more than it does the Clintons.

Trump Must Be Prosecuted After Leaving Office

Quote:
If our divided politics means we cannot hold an openly criminal president accountable while they are in office, and we fail to prosecute an openly criminal president once they leave, then the president is functionally free of all accountability. That is a guaranteed path to a criminal dictatorship.

In order to save the country, Democrats must be willing to look “backward” and uphold the rule of law.

She does seem like the leading option. I'd love Bernie, but he's too awesome.

Is Trump done? It seems like it's all starting to unravel. Dangerous times if Trump thinks he's got nothing to lose. But maybe he'd never believe he'd ever lose?

This Kurdish situation is unpopular like anything else he's done. The impeachment's in the bag, you've got serious career diplomats (i.e. people you turn to when you want adults in the room) testifying about incredulous actions by people of "questionable motive".

You must be getting your news from "the news". There will be no impeachment, they [the Democratic House] have not yet taken a vote as to whether to impeach him. If they do vote (which I doubt), and they do find an impeachable offence with actual evidence that meets the legal requirement (which I doubt even more), they then need 2/3 of the [Republican] Senate to confirm impeachment (which they won't).

My rule of thumb is whatever "everyone" appears to think (based on what the official news stories tell them to think), the reality is pretty much the opposite.

I think a crashing of the economy is more likely/possible than an impeachment. But that will hit _everyone_ where it hurts, including themselves, so it's a complete dick move, and will be done only out of total desperation. So, quite likely.

Personally, I'd vote Trump 2020, Tulsi Gabbard for 2024. She's got a lot more going for her than the other Dem candidates, in both likability and policy. (Anti Fed, anti war, not completely batshit crazy "socialism")

I'm comparing a variety of news sources and opinions with my pre-existing knowledge of human life, doing my best to parse the significant from the insubstantial.

I've heard claims the impeachment is a sure thing, and other opinions too. Including collapse of the Democrats for overplaying their hand, while the Republicans rise up in a glorious new era under Trump or his successor. I don't completely write that one off yet.

Our opinions are about our information bubbles as much as anything. A good way to clear the fog is to lay what you know out there for others to tear apart.

Trump is invulnerable while the Republican members of the Senate fear him. The House can impeach on whatever charges it likes but the Senate decides whether he's guilty or not, and it takes a 2/3rds supermajority to find a President guilty.

However, fear is an ephemeral thing. Just look at Weinstein. He was invulnerable while Hollywood feared him, and then all of a sudden it didn't.

I figure House impeaches, Senate finds him not guilty, Trump sees the writing on the wall for the 2020 elections. His response to the prospect of losing is something I have a morbid curiosity about.

While I totally agree he would not run if he didn't think he could win, I think his head is so far up his ass, that even if everything was pointing to him losing, he wouldn't see it.

I can't see him not running. I just figure he'll set things up to claim a fraudulent election if he loses, all hell breaking loose should this come to pass.

This could be one of them robust game-states we can't escape once we've fallen into it:

Everyone (who matters) knows Trump is going to throw his toys when he or a chosen successor loses. Everyone figures everyone else knows it's going to be better to mollify the Trumps than risk the level of destabilisation they might cause, and so without agreement or conspiracy everyone does their part tp avoid this destabilisation.

Long reign Trump.
