The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie. It's a Marple novel; not as good as the Poirot stories I've read so far, but still good

Just started reading "Vulcan 607" by Rowland White, about an incredible long range raid by the RAF to bomb the Port Stanley runway during the Falklands War.
The Vulcans were literally being decommissioned for scrap and the last was due to be gone 6 months after the start of the war. They needed to re-enable all of the air-to-air refueling systems (including finding spare parts which were no longer made) and in one case tested the pressure of the refueling rigs with a part that was being used as an ashtray in the officers mess. So far, two thumbs up. Also, new bookshelves in the weekend - piccy. Major cleanout underway, that's about 1/3rd of the books I did have in the room. |

I generally don't read books much but I'm waiting for The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible to come out, which is rumored to be at Halloween.

My partner just picked up some old classics from Unity for cheap so I'm getting stuck into The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. About time too! I've been told by a number of people to read this (years ago) so am glad to finally get round too it.

Just finished reading 'The Eldest' after reading 'Eragon' a couple of months before hand.
I quite enjoyed them, but ffs he is a noob sometimes and there were some cringe moments when he tries to get it on with Arya. I hope he gets smacked down again by you know who in book 3. Going to get back to the series I was reading before hand, A Song of Ice & Fire. Have only read book 1 so far. |

Stephen Fry - The Ode Less Travelled
1. Because Mssr Fry is just a legend and a genius and I'll read/watch/listen to anything he does 2. Because I'm pretentious 3. Because I wanted to know what an epithalamium was (see 2.) 4. Because I've mucked around with writing poetry before but never really known the 'methods'

No, I'm struggling so much that I probably have only read 1/2 way through the first one (interspersed with a few othjer book I'm reading at the mo)..However!..I think it is slightly getting better, and on your good advise, I shall persevere! I have, however, at last found a character I like.. Kruppe! ..hes too funny |

Kruppe is a great character. You'll come across one later, if you continue, called Iskaral Pusk who is amusing in the same, but a little different, way.
I have to say, Memories of Ice is my favourite of the series so far, but I did enjoy most. However, it has been commented on that Erikson does take a little while to warm up in his books but they then crack along. I, personally, like the way he comments on something in an offhand way, and then later in the series it will get more focus and you wonder where you "heard" about it before.

I loved (and still enjoy) Sven Hassel... though I hated how different imprints would change the names of some characters (Tiny == Little John) ...
Obergefreiter, by the Grace of God, Josef Porta is still one of my favourite characters ever. drac0s... suck! I take it that's in the UK? Don't think it's out here yet.
