I've been buying off these guys since they first opened, 12 years ago. They've always been straight up with me, and alot of the time gone out of their way to help me I had a issue with something.

I don't imagine anyone here has just brought things home from that company, given that in the real world you need to have BOUGHT something before you attain ownership.

What's the upshot of all this? You still need to work harder at English, Hyper.

my view exactly.

We need a "hot or not" for pc stores just to know which ones to avoid, which ones we should look out for etc

Actually, if we could somehow get a pole with all the names, and a "hot or not" option for each...or even better a 1 - 10 rating?
No idea if that sort of pole can actually be set up, but it would give a much better indication...

If you want any form of service or any attention to the details in your order don't bother with ParaDIM.

I made the very bad mistake of purchasing some components from them. 90% of order was different from what I ordered. They missed all the delivery dates I required.

Since then I needed a component replaced under warranty, they said it was going to take two weeks. I went straight to the supplier and got it all sorted in three days.

This isn't a shop I know but Trigger makes some good comments that I think shoppers of media should know so I'm posting it here so it doesn't get lost in the masses....sue me if you don't like it.

highest quality blank cd and DVD media is manufactured by Taiyo Yuden in Japan, however I'm 99% certain nobody in NZ sells them
they are even hard to get in USA
Taiyo Yuden is by far the best DVD media
second/third best is Ritek and Ricoh manufactured, but only specific 'generation' discs and they vary depending on which burner is used

please note that who MANUFACTURES the blank media is completely different to what the discs are BRANDED as. Brand names are things people are familiar with like Verbatim, TDK, Imation, Melody, etc...

for example Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD+R 4x discs which are Manufactured in Japan are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden and are pretty much the best DVD media, some even read better than pressed discs!!!
but on the other side, Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD+R 4x discs which are Manufactured in Taiwan, China or Singapore are manufactured by Mitsubishi and are of rather poor(er) quality.

so basically brand name is fairly irrelevant, what you should be looking at is the Media code/Manufacturer ID of the discs which you can only read from the physical disc itself with tools like DVD Decrypter

currently theres is a big variation in media quality due to how new and somewhat 'undeveloped' blank DVD media is, as opposed to say blank CD media where the pretty much most discs will perform equally (bar some really really shitty quality media)

so really when someone says "blank Verbatim DVD media is great!" they could be talking about half a dozen or more different types of discs manufactured by different companies and different 'generation' discs

Extremely Superior Quality blank DVD media is manufactured by Taiyo Yuden and has the following manufacture IDs (they are different generation, but all superior quality):
YUDEN000T0
TAIYOYUDEN
TYG01

second/third best would be a specific 'generation' of Ritek and Ricoh manufactured media:
RICOHJPNR01
RITEKG04

please note you can't get Taiyo Yuden media in NZ, if anyone can get it I'd be very interested in purchasing it
so far www.picosys.co.nz and www.tastech.co.nz have RitekG04 media available

if you want more information, go read the clubcdfreaks forum link I posted above

about those people complaining about dodgy media from picosys, they specifically list manufacture IDs of discs which is what no other store does and most dont even know about it. its your fault really for not doing reasearch about media quality

A really long thread that should have started with ...

www.pricespy.co.nz

Even includes GST for those too lazy to do basic math.

Oh, and if you wander across to my page you'll see that I build custom rigs but I don't sell parts.

cepting that I think when this thread started, pricespy didn't exist so although it may have made it into one of the first posts, the NZG collective wasn't aware that they were about to be on the scene. We didn't have our collection of tin-foil hats ready

I have bought parts from XP before they moved their shop, but only from the shop itself, not online. Assuming same owner, he seemed alright, and was pretty good pricewise.

But as a I say, this is from inshop experience, never ordered online through XPC.

Yeah, on that subject you may want to sit in on those classes so that you can ATTAIN (= achieve) a sufficient level of English so that you can more effectively help this guy OBTAIN ( = take ownership of) the things he's trying to buy...

Beccara - John Styles left the company some way through last year & with him went what set them apart from the run-of-the-mill sites...

Well I'm having a bastard of a time with Ascent. I ordered a whole system off their site and wanted them to build it for me. All parts were listed as available bar the 6600GT vid card which was fine as the expected shipping date was a week away and I could handle that. It's been 3 weeks and although the vid card just arrived, the mobo which had plenty of stock when I ordered it,is still on backorder.
Pretty piss poor considering its been 3 weeks since I handed over a large amount of money.

I've heard nothing but bad bad bad stuff about SuperCheapPC's. Flatmate had a HELL of a time trying to get his money back out of them after they stuffed his order quite badly. Ended up overcharging him for the wrong parts, again, no apology or after sales service etc. Stay away!

www.playtech.co.nz

Previously a supplier, now they want more money. Pretty cheap deals.

I'm unhappy with their service though, shopped there twice now (waiting for second order to arrive now), & they seem to be slow to reply/update status.

For the second order I twice mentioned that I wanted a tracking code for the package. Which they ignored.
