After a load of continuous errors they seemed to have stopped now on both servers.

Who owns the stunted little track running halfway around the pond with the underwater portal? I'd like to remove that dead end section opposite the farm and use that cliff face.

Right. Spawn's getting crowded, and overland rail is inefficient. Are we still avoiding opening up new areas or can I open up an "island" in the dark? 1.9's not exactly looking like a treasure trove of love that we want to save ourselves for.

The nether bridges is perhaps the only think I can think of that's worth waiting for - will make things like nether-rail much quicker to set up. Personally I don't mind either way anymore, but I'm only an occasional participant on the server, so <shrug>.

1.9 looks like a big fat 'meh'. Go explore IMO. The only thing that I thought we weren't expanding for were the NPCs, but they don't add anything to the game at all. I don't even know why they're being put in if they don't even do anything yet.

With a help of a few friends, my wheat farm is now complete!
It's free for everyone to use but I'd appreciate it if you replant what you harvest and replow any disturbed dirt you find. Wheat is a good source of food but is also used for breeding animals in 1.9, so when it rolls around you know where to find some wheat! |

What config are you running for Java? ... I used to have these a lot (as the server was loaded and configured mainly for ... er "backups of linux" ....). Since 1.8.1 I've had to mod mine now it runs "error" free .... well ish.... took some fucken forhead beating and tuning but now it runs like butter on a hotplate.

Yeah theres a number of things you can do to java to make it run more optimal for large load/high through put etc etc... My server runs heaps of other shit besides Minecraft but minecraft is the most "resource critical" eg ... if its running like ass .. users notice .. .people using the http/file sharing components? ... Don't notice or care so I setup mine around that. That being said this has been the best config/setup I've found so far for my server: screen -t "MinecraftServer" -S "MinecraftServer" bash -c 'ionice -c1 -n1 nice -n -2 /usr/bin/java -server -verbose:gc -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:SurvivorRatio=10 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:UseSSE=3 -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=4 -XX:+UseParallelOldGC -XX:+UseBiasedLocking -XX:+AggressiveOpts -jar craftbukkit.jar nogui ; exit' Brief explanation of my understanding... I use screen to run the shell in ... if shell = quit then the screen session dies ... etc etc (can also use this to create auto reload scripts if req). ionice -c1 -n1 nice -n -2 = Modifying the nice levels of Minecraft to have higher than normal process priority etc etc.. -XX:PermSize=256m = burst over ram allocation -XX:SurvivorRatio=10 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 = Ram/memory recovery (and how fierce it is) -XX:UseSSE=3 = Use SSE3/AMD accel (not always needed afaik) -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=4 = Mutli threaded garbage collection (ram recovery/old chunks etc) -XX:+UseParallelOldGC = Use old Garbage collector, this lowered the number of "pauses" the server experienced. -XX:+UseBiasedLocking = I cant remember .. but this one was recommended..... -XX:+AggressiveOpts = Turn on fancy/new/optimal features. Again I'm no pro .. but I bashed the shit out of this config this weekend and found that it worked best on these for my box .... ymmv...

Eggs can be chucked and have a chance of spawning a chicken.

My experiments with eggs and chickens have led me to the conclusion that it's not worth it, or at least not worth trying to build an automated egg collector. The return on thrown eggs is around 1 chicken per 16 eggs - that's a lot of cake!

Actually I tried the Gerudoku's "Light" version (there's Light, High and Dark contrast ones) and I quite like it. Not much of a fan of the GUI but the textures themselves a nice and there's a font change which is good too.

So I've setup dynmap for the games2 minecraft server. It looks pretty awesome.
I think it's the same one that Bites was suggesting a few pages back. I might look at doing it for our one too when we upgrade to bukkit. http://games2.orcon.net.nz |

Ok guys I decided to take the plunge and switch the server over to Bukkit. I've currently only loaded Lockette (the chest locking plugin).
I've backed up the world before doing this so if there are any problem it can be reverted. When 1.9 comes out there may be a short delay until bukkit and lockette are updated. I got sick of waiting for 1.9 and I don't think anyone really cares much for 1.9 anyway that they can't wait. For more information on Lockette you can go here http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/sec...556-1185.4336/ Last edited by Cowboy : 6th October 2011 at 10:57. |
