Either way, unless National truely drop the ball this next 3 years (I give it.even odds) Labour will still be screwed next election.

Is Cunliffe seriously talking renationalisation of former State assets that have been sold to private buyers?
Did he just - and pardon me while I seek the most appropriate phrase from the lexicon of realpolitik - fucking go there? |

Yes, yes he did.

Not my pick but Shearer's still a great choice and his genuine good guy charm seems to be appealing to voters.
I look forward to seeing him successfully develop in the new role and by 2014 he'll make an excellent Prime Minister edit: also I hope they still utilise Cunliffe as he easily runs rings around English et al.

I fear that Shearer has nobbled himself by NOT saying "I'm a fresh face here to get rid of the old troughers from the Clark era" and instead has gone to those troughers for support. When the new guy comes out and says "I have the support of Phil Goff, Annette King, and Trevor Mallard" that doesn't fill me with feelings of rejuvenation.
Ironically the guy who said "I'm here to get rid of the old troughers" was CUNLIFFE. Former cabinet minister under Clark. I had hoped that this would be a contest between old and new but instead it has been a contest of Team Old A and Team Old B. |

I thought Shearer is too green (as in too inexperienced). Ok maybe in 3 years time he will be ready. We'll see.
While Cunliffe has the policy knowledge, he also has the charisma of a wet bag of poo. |

Hopefully when they fail miserably in another election or three they may realise that the old guard are boatanchors weighing them down.
That or said old guard may die of old age.

imo Damien O’Connor should have been there.
Good to see the dead wood pretty much gone as ottomh out of the few still in from the Clark era only Mahuta was prominent back then. Overall quite fresh which is what they needed.

By the looks of it the new Labour shadow front bench is made up of Helen Clark's former staff. It's just the usual Labour gravy train of student rep to student unionist to parliamentary staffer to List MP.

I am surprised that Kate Sutton didn't get on the list at all. She is, after all, the protytpical Labour MP. There's definitely one person more useless than Jacinda Ardern -- good grief when I was in uni Sutton was getting her student union career started and even then the stupidity was there for all to see.
At least the ex-CTU shit Andrew Little didn't get much. Last edited by cyc : 19th December 2011 at 21:32. |

Normally politics bore(s) the crap out of me but this post has managed to hold my interest with intelligent comments and useful insights from most people.
It's outside the normal standard of most discussions. What went right? (And no CCS..don't say it's because I haven't posted with my thoughts and insights.) |

National won. But labour still got about twice as many votes as it deserved. I think due to people having the habit of voting for them despite labour's descent into utter madness. Really green should have got more votes. Perhaps if they were more sensible they could become the number two party?
