Previously a supplier, now they want more money. Pretty cheap deals.

I'm unhappy with their service though, shopped there twice now (waiting for second order to arrive now), & they seem to be slow to reply/update status.

For the second order I twice mentioned that I wanted a tracking code for the package. Which they ignored.
They are still a supplier.

KTK Holdings owns it as I understand, who also owns TMC and Conextech both are wholesalers.

Question

Who's best to get Legend laptop memory? I'm trying to get 1GB of DDR333 SODIMM, apparently C&L computer are the cheapest according to PriceSpy, but I couldn't find said RAM anywhere on their site. I'm also guessing that said RAM would sell for around $220, maybe a little more?

Just wanted to let you know of my experience as a walk in customer to this shop.

Wanted a replacement 2.5" 40GB HD for laptop so checked at pricespy, noted their price and qty = good. So drove over (short distance) and walked in. Sales girl was reasonably nice but said no stock (WTF?) come back in 2 hours as courier is delivering new stock.

OK, so I waited 4 hours, then tried calling them to see if stock is in yet. Amazing, press 2 to speak to sales person and line goes silent. Tried calling several times same result (bang head on brick wall).

Drove over to shop again - four people in shop doing various jobs and a person who seem to be the owner said nope, no 2.5" HD yet. I asked how am I suppose to check if they arrive if their phone doesn't work the whole day. Gave me some spiel about all lines engaged etc. Doesn't seem interested to serve me at all.

Not going back there again... any savings that could be made was lost by wasting my time and petrol.

I'm off to PBTECH now. Might be a bit further away but heck they respond with speed and their Ops manager is way more helpful and customer friendly.

just out of interest if theres any web developers out there. I've done a bit of web work setting up a shopping cart etc. Product database storing few thousand products.

One thing I haven't been able to discover is how websites such as Ascent & other such online stores manage to store so many detailed product images? I mean they have like images for almost every product? How can they achieve this??? Do they have someone who just sits there all day adding products & finding relevant images???

No, but they do have someone that is basically a product manager. Whenever a new product is added, it's not that hard to do a quick google and get a half-way decent image of most products. The initial setup would have been a right pain in the arse, and the site didn't really change for bloody ages, but once it's set up it's all go.

This is my own company, we used to sell computer hardware but now we focus on computer, xbox and ps2 games (new releases $89) as well as DVDs and VHS movies.

Have had all sales with customers go smoothly *so far* hehe, in response to others saying spamming at least I actually admit I'm the owner although this might be commercial advertising it is under the computer shop thread .

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions.

If you're looking forward for a warranty, don't go to super cheap computers.

http://www.sccl.co.nz
http://supercheappc.biz

bought a motherboard from them, which the onboard sound don't work. wanted a warranty return, they said they would "test" the motherboard out (minimum 3 days), and will charge $45 if no faults are found. I kept asking for the maximum time it'll take, the person I spoke to she avoids the question

I can just picture the scenario of how they just test the motherboard, finds the fault, and thinks "Oh well we'll need to give him a new motherboard anyway, so let's swap his faulty motherboard with a new motherboard, and say didn't find any faults, then charge him $45"

The motherboard only costs $110 incl GST, does not justify the whole $45 thing. I told him the consumer's guarantee's act allows me 14 days to return any goods that I'm not satisfied with, they said they don't do the CGA and told me to go away.

If you want a cheap deal and care not about warranty, supercheappc is what you're looking for.

Nobody can choose to "not do the CGA" what a load of bs. Have a look on the consumer.org website, if need be call Consumer Affairs or whatever they're told, then ring back that computer store and tell them that they can explain to a lawyer or court why "they don't do the CGA"

Obviously make sure that you have all your info straight before doing that. And let us know how it goes. If it happened as you say it did - what dodgy bastards.

Thanks for the info, I know that they can't choose not to do the CGA, but going through the process of hammering that fact into their heads is too much effort, for a $110 motherboard.

I'll just steer clear of that place ever again. Sure other shops charge more but they charge more for a reason.

Uh... Akane, you must be bloody rich that $110 means absolutely nothing to you.

If it were me, I'd follow it through for the principal of the thing.

Not rich, just that I live on the shore and these guys are in town, by the time I travel a few times, pay a few fees here and there just to get them to the small claims, it'll cover most if not all of the $110, it's just not worth the hassle, and time = money.

Yes I know the whole principle thing, but it's just too much to go through.

HENCE WHY FOREVER ALONE

I have *good* news about a store...

In the weekend, I noticed that Pricespy was listing some Benq 17" LCD monitors for $211. It was obviously an error, considering the next cheapest was like $530.

I went to the company's site (Computer Store Ltd) and placed my order.

I got an order receipt, and on the Monday I received an email saying that unfortunately it was a pricing mistake, and they couldn't sell for that price.

No harm in trying I thought. Fine.

This morning I wake up to a courier package on my doorstep. They had sent me out a USB 2.0 Flash Drive as a gift to apologise for my inconvenience

How awesome is that?

Good to hear DrTiTus

I've just used clcomputer.co.nzp
Excellent communication, and good prices should see the goods this week.

Ascent styled webpage, but they have some products ascent don't.
2% direct credit discount was a bonus also.

You got it in one. Ascent has two full time staff that do this. The pics, specs, reviews, manufacturers links etc don't get included in a CSV price feed i'm afraid.

Oh Gamma Computers in Auckland, they are shitty. Worst online shop Ive ever used by far, their website is useless and they sent me the wrong stuff twice and tried to get me to pay return freight on their fuck-up. Never had a problem buying online with anyone else, Ascent for instance are how it should be done. Gamma arent even cheap either, just crappy.

Ex AU: Everything Linux (though that's a but of a misnomer now - it's not just Linux nowadays) have a reasonable variety and can do one-offs (though they charge like a wounded bull for those)

EDIT: Other then that, just seems to be the common ones (Redhat/SUSE/etc) at just about any reasonable-sized computer and parts retail shop
