Isn't the Oppo just a rebadged Oneplus? Or vice versa?

Not sure, the Oneplus only looks like a 1080p screen not 1440p, so maybe a rebadged find7a? Sure do look similar though.

Christ, that's it, I'm out. I'll stick with the giant iPhone, it just seems easier than having to put this much thought into it.

I know what you mean chiQ. iPhone covers in general are fucking butt ugly and add so much bulk. Why have a sexy looking phone and hide it? I know a lot of people that have bought a case for an iPhone only to not use it because its so unaesthetically pleasing.

Not quite, essentially BBK Electronics is the parent company of Oppo...Oppo supposedly owns OnePlus One however they aren't openly admitting it (at least last time I checked).

Oppo Find 7 is a premium chinese brand, they make pretty decent smartphones that are already quite popular in Asia. Having played with a few, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up - those guys have been making good gear for ages.

OnePlus One seems to have a different feature focus, they are definitely much "different" phones.

Wish I knew where to read iOS changelogs better, just found out today that Night Owl ringtone was added to iOS in iOS7, wouldn't have even known any ringtones were added unless I got curious when setting an alarm earlier. It's a pretty tight alarm clock tone, peppy!

Oh damn, we're going to end up taking the ghetto blaster route with mobiles now. First it was desirable to be smaller, then they went huge, just to keep everyone on their toes.

The size shrinking diagram holds true if you consider the dialer icon as the phone portion of smart phones.

I.e. 'one day phones will be so small that they'll just be an icon on your iPAQ'

I've decided I would actually like a bigger phone than my S3, because I can't fucking type on screens to save myself. I don't even have man fingers, I just can't seem to press the right button on a screen, it's infuriating!

And then there's Apple, playing catch-up with Android by releasing larger phones.

I could make a similar type comment Ab did re: the latest iOS debacle - that is, big whoop - to be affected you still have to go into settings, tick on 'allow unknown sources', and accept the warning message before installing an app from a compromised source.

It means:

Samsung's expensive phones have never matched the iPhone, and Apple is continuing them to fuck them at the expensive end of the market; and

Chinese newcomers like Xiaomi have watched the courtcases and learned the lesson that you can GET RICH BIATCH by copying Apple because Samsung only got a slap on the wrist. So they've jumped on the Apple clone bandwagon, and you know what? it ain't hurting Apple. It's hurting the incumbent Apple cloner. So these new cheap manufacturers have started fucking Samsung at the budget end of the market.

Actually Xiaomi have overtaken Apple in China so...it is hurting Apple a little, you're giving Apple way too much credit here. They aren't "newcomers" either, they've been around for a good wee while now and ripping it up.

What's hilarious is that Xiaomi have managed to tear away most of the chinese customers from the likes of HTC, Apple, Lenovo, Samsung, ZTE, Oppo and done a great job at it, much kudos to them. With Barra on board, it'll be interesting to see how the approach the international scene...however having using a Xiaomi Mi3 on a recent biz-trip, I've got to say it is one epic phone to use xD

Indian budget smartphone maker Micromax has ousted Samsung Electronics Co Ltd as India's leading brand in all types of mobile phones in the April-June quarter, grabbing a 16.6 percent market share, a recent research report showed.

Samsung had 14.4 percent market share, down from 16.3 percent in the first quarter, said the report by Counterpoint Research.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker with the diminutive name, became the leading smartphone vendor in China in the second quarter, with its shipments exceeding Samsung’s for the first time, according to figures from market research firm Canalys.

Xiaomi led China’s second-quarter smartphone shipment rankings with 14% market share, followed by Samsung, Lenovo and Yulong each with 12%. It’s quite a jump from the first quarter, when Xiaomi’s 10.7% market share trailed Samsung’s 18.3% and Lenovo’s 11%. And an even bigger leap from a year ago, when Xiaomi only held 5%.

Samsung saw second-quarter mobile sales drop 12 percent, but profit in the business that includes phones and tablets fell 31 percent amid stiff competition. The company had already warned earlier this month that the second quarter would be a tough one.

Samsung’s global smartphone market share dropped seven percentage points from a year ago, according to IDC.

July 22, 2014—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2014 third quarter ended June 28, 2014. The Company posted record quarterly revenue of $37.4 billion and quarterly net profit of $7.7 billion, or $1.28 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $35.3 billion and net profit of $6.9 billion, or $1.07 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.4 percent compared to 36.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 59 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
Yup, those budget Asian smartphones sure are hurting Apple.

I just bought the Lumia 930. This phone is sex on wheels. I think Nokiasoft has finally got it right. I've been a Windows Phone user for about 5 years now and I've had an iPhone work phone for a good chunk of that.

The iPhone OS is boring as fuck and so linear, very little cross app integration but all of the native apps are really polished and fast and first to market if you care about that.

Windows Phone OS has always appealed to me. I love live tiles, the emphasis on amazing photography, the flat modern design and how all apps pivot for most things instead of pushing buttons to open menus. It's always lagged behind in terms of speed for me though.

Finally with Windows Phone 8.1 there is a decent OS and with the 930 a lightning fast device that looks simply beautiful. I believe that Windows Phone has truly finished playing catch up and can begin the daunting task of actually competing with the big boys.

I like an OS to be boring. The more boring the better. And you're right iOS is very boring - it's super stable, entirely predictable, and everything just works across the entire ecosystem.
