Hours Played

Just looking through my Steam library, there are some pretty scary/awesome numbers. Here's my top 6.

1. Mount & Blade: Warband 139 hours
2. Empire Total War 109 hours
3. X3: Terran Conflict 99 hours
4. Shatter 80 hours
5. Plants vs Zombies 76 hours
6. Borderlands 54 hours

Now I'm sure some of you hardcore fullas can well outdo me.

I rarely touch steam so yeah, my played time with actual Steam will be short. Think highest is Dragon age which is 50 or 60 hours or something.

I have over 4320 hours with WoW (quick count up of characters played time). 250+ hours with Disgaea 3, 140 with Disgaea DS. 150 or so with sc2 (saved replays avged to 14 minutes per game). quite a lot of other games where I've broken 100 hours (baldur's gate 2, diablo 2 both of those are possibly closer to 500-600+ at a guess).

Holy shit 80 hours on Shatter!?!? I mean, it's an excellent game and I totally love it. But did you get stuck somewhere or something? Or do you just replay it or what? I must admit I haven't gotten past the boss on the Argon world yet... But there's only 2 worlds beyond Argon in the story mode and I've only spent about 2 hours playing it to get to Argon. How have you managed to play it for 80 hours?

I got 93 hours of Borderlands play time, been at it again. The General Knoxx DLC is very awesome, highly recommend it if you want to revisit the game

The real game for me has been keeping in the top high scores for Endless and Time Attack. I was top 5 for awhile for both, still in the top ten.

OK let's do some calculations...

If this was your full time job, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, it would have kept you busy for 27 months (that's including 4 weeks holidays per year).

If you had been getting paid at the average NZ wage for a male, you would have earned $115,452 in that time.

Though probably you've been doing something else with your days and only playing WoW in evenings and weekends. Say you get home about 6pm, eat until 7pm, just straight on the PC and play until 11pm, plus spend 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday playing. That would mean 36 hours a week WoW time.

That adds up to a solid 2 years and 4 months of spending all your spare time playing WoW. Your profile says you're 28. That means you've spent 23% of your adult life (since 18) doing nothing in your free time but play WoW.

Impressive/scary.

I wonder how skewed the distribution of wages in NZ is, how far above the median wage do you think that average is?

Honestly haven't played that solid in years, but yes I was very addicted to the game on release up to BC release in jan 2007 and I was unemployed for 5 months during that period (from release to BC coming out) so I clocked up an unhealthy amount of hours.. what you describe there is pretty much what I did during that time, which came at the expense of the programming I was doing at the time. Its pretty fucken scary looking back on it, and it caught pretty much all of my real life friends too.

A count up of the characters I've played since BC adds up to 720 hours which for 3.5 years on 1 game is pretty reasonable in my books. My spare time these days is hanging out, programming or gaming. I might watch 5 hours of TV in a month.

1. FreeAllegiance. 14k+ hours (Non Steam)
2. Killing Floor - 842 hours
3. Defence Grid - 293 hours.
4. Left for Dead. - 288 hours
5. Killing Floor 2 - 265 hours
6. Space Engineers - 188 hours
7. Borderlands - 165 hours
8. Creeper World 4 - 139 hours
9. Carrier Command - 111 hours
10. Sup Com 2 - 110 hours

#TF2 with 40 hours.
Not sure why thats recorded in steam with so few hours.
Should be in the 800+ hours range. Which would potentially get it to 2nd place.
Think I had 300 hours as an Engineer, 250 as a soldier. 200 Medic.
Then in the 50s for the other classes. When I stopped playing.

Makes me doubt the hours recorded in steam for all other games.
Though thats the only one I can 100% confidently state is incorrect.

Many games have hours that are potentially inflated by being left paused / alt-tabbed overnight.
