I've seen a lot of stupid shit over the years in crypto, but the current NFT trend has got to be the dumbest fucking thing ever

NFT makes sense to me for:
- Gaming collectables (WTS: Diablo II Resurrected Zod Rune) - Digital art - Bragging rights on iconic internet events (i.e buying the first ever Tweet) and I know there are thousands of other applications that I can't even imagine. But that's what understanding Bitcoin and NFTs requires, imagination. What's stupid is how much these are currently selling for, and that those buying expects to fetch a higher price in the future.

Nasdaq slowly bleeds out, BTC sticking to $50k. BTC is correlated with equities until it isn't.
So long as BTC stays still around $50k, ETH can steal the show. ETH is correlated with BTC until it isn't.

Annnd, Boomerberg's most read story is about Ethereum (or "crypto coin" as they call it) , EIP1559
https://twitter.com/crypto_bobby/sta...782464514?s=21 At the end of the year the biggest hype will be around DeFi, however. Maybe we'll have the first ever 24/7 banking/finance protocols running behind a trusted front end like Paypal, VISA, or Mastercard.

No FOMO, No trending coins. Give me decentralised projects with full blocks of real world usage.
Binance white paper mentions Ethereum every paragraph. It's proof of stake, with only 21 federated validator nodes (i.e Binance will probably always own all 21 validator nodes). I haven't checked it's on chain stats but the lions share of fees go to the validators (i.e Binance) so Binance can theoretically wash trade at 0 cost to give the appearance of a fully utilised blockchain. On the otherhand, BNB is a good short term buy because Binance will be the on ramp for lots of normies new to crypto this cycle.

But for many people it's going to be the place they go to trade once they take the Coinbase-style training wheels off, and it's going to be easier and cheaper for them to trade if they have Binance Coin in their wallets, so I think BNB is useful and will be into the future. I took some of my ETH and BTC gains at the peak a few weeks back and bought BNB when I was diversifying a bit. Until last night I'd been wondering if that had been a good move, so a bit of relief today. Edit - and just like that BNB jumps into the #3 spot by cap. The top 5 are now Bitcoin Ethereum Binance Coin Cardano Polkadot yeah fuck off Tether |

Another use for NFTs:
Social media^H^H^H^H advertising platforms pay to use your data they have until now been harvesting for free.

NFT sells for US$69 million. The buyer was Justin Sun, the TRON guy.
The auction’s winner doesn’t get much: a digital file, mostly, plus some vague rights to present the image. But Winkelmann expects to work with the buyer to find various ways to display the piece physically, whether that’s on a TV in their house or projected onto “the side of a fucking building” at Art Basel. |

Can't argue with that. Uganda goat farmers already have a digital currency in the form of mobile credits and energy retail credits. They can trade with an app on their phone. So in many ways Bitcoin (as a medium of exchange) has to compete with an established network effect in these places, and everywhere in the world for that matter. It loses as a medium of exchange.
Bitcoin ideal good news is institutions and corporations buying big bags of Bitcoin and then the coins don't move. Best treasury reserve / savings account in the world. Ethereum ideal good news is how much velocity and usage there is across DeFi and all other Dapps. Most useful, functional currency in the world. and now we have digital ownership certificates (NFTs), which is going through a silly phase now but we all know it has a place on the internet. It'll find where it fits.

Anyone in Aussie wanna buy $100-200 worth of ETH or BTC?
I need to put some money in an Australian bank account, and thought I could do a trade All good if not, I'll just do the international transfer thing.

ETH's a waste of money the way gas fees are right now. Send me some XLM, I'll sell it at market and send fiat to your mate. In Oz most people use a bank transfer system called PayID - get your guy's phone number or email, whatever (s)he uses for PayID.
