Perhaps - although raised platforms or at least raised dirt areas with sheer edges are nice and easy to make safe.

Another thing is the ocean there will probably be quite vast, and in fact is the best place for a trap to be built. We could have a causeway to it from the city or some such.

Woo, there's a village over there on the right.

Is the map chunk generation the same when using the same seed as well? That's what generates for me anyway.

Hmm, I like the layout of the NZG seed spawn point a bit more. Would be good to have some natural water around, etc...

I hope the spawned village stays in tact :P

Yeah, there's certainly more going on. "NZGames" would give us an easier construction platform with a shitload more trees but it's much more bland.

Whatever people want I'm not too fussed.

I like Seldom's point about needing an ocean nearby for optimal trap building. Any seed with a nearby ocean gets my vote.

Pics of the porno seed?

I prefer the NZG seed to the NZGames seed, 'interesting' terrain always trumps flat terrain; also with that high bit, it allows for newcomers to get a high vantage point safely and see out further.

Think we should go for 8:00pm release day? The best time for a new world is when everyone joins at the same time and there's that initial struggle to get safe and established!

IMO that actually looks like a pretty good starting seed. Seaside based, trees, desert biome nearby for sand, some interesting terrain including a swamp biome. Building on flat earth is EASY, but it can be a bit boring.

So - a possibly controversial suggestion / question:

Do we go Creative (or at least Peaceful) for the first week or so until we can get traps and some common infrastructure in-place?

Well that would help with town planning I wasn't around at the start of the current server but I can imagine the rush to set up shelters was chaotic.

gotta just be normal at the start... part of teh fun.....
I remember my first logon to this current server: it was right on dusk... panic!!!! Just build myself a pillar of sand and stood on that until dawn.... all part of the fun.

I assume leave it as normal to start then perhaps temp switch to peaceful just to get the main drop trap done?

Having never built one I don't know what they're like to make in normal mode.

OK to build if you're being cautious, but damn near impossible to repair.

IMO if we had a pile of sticky-pistons & redstone available then we could build it so that each section/floor could be blocked until it's time to bring it on-line - or needs to be taken off-line.

Gotta have it on survival normal, none of this carebear crap! :P

In saying that, from playing 1.8 pre-release, mobs are EVERYWHERE (so are pigs for some reason, like literally 20 - 30 in one area). So prepare yourselves!

Is there a semi confirmed release of 1.8 (server specifically) outside of the pre-release?

Seen the "12th" and summary "ok not the 12th" titter updates .. but havent found anything concrete?

It should be out soon though, there was a list of bugfixes about and it wasn't terribly huge and didn't seem like it would take a lot of resources to fix. I'd say another day or two at most.

I came across my first chest in proper Survival Single Player, in a mineshaft and scored some melon seeds! I was super keen in having a farm but it seems once they grow, that's it You don't get any seeds back

Haha I tried to make it to spawn and someone nuked the lobby in the Nether. Had to build my way to the spawn portal and relight it to get back.

Pre Release 2 is out, and I've already encountered a new bug! Shift+click into an already full inventory crashes the client.
